Hey all. Anyone want to offer up some free guidance on terraforming?

I have a map I'm working with that is roughly 4K x 4K and the terrain features are cut off at those boundaries.

Anyone want to offer some free guidance on extended the boundaries outward in locations, while maintaining a natural look of addition.

I'm new to terrain work, but I have world painter and a bunch of custom brushes.

Was just wondering if there is an easy way to accomplish this.

Ultimately I am trying to add some areas for dungeons and player towns on my rpg map.

I figured it was worth a shot asking, so any input would be greatly appreciated. The reason I want to do it myself is to learn how to do it and because I need to ensure my map stays in a very closed circle of trusted people.

Thanks ahead of time!

Extending a custom world would be very tricky, even for someone with the skills to do so. Since they would have to smooth it all in. You would be better off getting a new map. I do sell some nice very cheap ones here: www.mc-market.org/threads/111514/ but if you want your custom one extended it would be quite costly.

Thanks for the info. The map I use has a lot of built features that I want to remain in the same location, hence why I would not like to start with a different map. I may opt to extend certain parts with a small valley and smooth that part out, then continue with new terrain from there.

So what exactly do you want to do?. Do you want to have an infinitely expanding custom world? this is not possible with WP.

If you want to merge it into a vanilla world, export it with the 'no border' option selected (LEAVE OUT THE TREES AND STUFF). Then load the chunks around the edges of the map, at least 100 blocks in every direction.

At this point, import it again into worldpainter using the import - as a minecraft map function.
Mark all above-ground man-made structures as read-only.

Then use WP to merge it into the vanilla world, and export it again, this time with tree layers implemented. It will continue generating vanilla terrain using the same seed, so if you leave non-edited terrain all around the edges the transition will be smooth.

I havent fully decided if I want infinite or not yet, just wanting to see the viability and what it would take. You response was very helpful, thank you.
