Hey, this is going to be a long-discussion, however this post I’m going to keep nice and short.

I’m starting a Factions server and was looking for some input. Anything that’ll improve it, any suggestions, etc.

Do not try to convince me Factions is dead, because you will not be able to change my mind. I have good faith in this project.

Just a quick summary of the server: The server will not have advanced cannons and will limit tnt cannons for the maximum build to be a sand stacker, no GenBuckets, printer will be blocked, reduce P2W as much as we can, and we’ll stick with a nice signshop design.

High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

The short answer is: don't. But if you're adamant about it...

Focus on maintaining a strong economy. Nobody enjoys 'completing' the game in a few days without putting in real effort. Consider incorporating a storyline. Despite Minecraft player counts remaining relatively consistent (as seen on Activeplayer.io), it's crucial to recognise that servers on Minecraft are continually replicated, entering the market now will be more challenging than it was half a decade ago, even though the player count has objectively increased. Lastly, I would love to see some form of variation between factions, whether it be through unique perks i.e., mining, or with a more engaging system such as one where the leader may get voted out if a majority of members dislike their authority.

I'd also personally suggest allocating a rather heavy budget on marketing, since that is well and truly the only way you'll be getting players with a game as simple and saturated as factions.

Love the feedback and suggestions, however can you elaborate on the storyline part aswell as the unique perks and mining?

I used to own two faction servers, loved the game mode.

I think it's just so dead now, people like SMP more, kind of sad to see.

I don’t think it’s dead, for example Minecadia & Complex. They are high-budget servers, but it shows that people are still willing to play and commit to servers like that.

If you are to I would heavily suggest although expensive getting in contact with an old HCF youtuber to try revive the gamemode, keep it in 1.8.9 make an op economy dont make it p2w (thats what killed factions) add custom enchants as well as all the original aspects of the gamemode.
Who do you recommend as old HCF YouTubers?
