Feedback on graphics?

So, I have been doing graphic design around the Call of Duty community for a total of 2 years now. I have always done 3D modeling and the likes, and never put much time into 2D. After taking an extensive break, I'm getting into 2D. I just got back into it today, and was wanting a bit of feedback on my latest work. Don't judge all of my work based on this one piece, check my portfolio for the rest.

This artwork is alright but it obviously is just using a paint splatter from a pack and putting a gradient on it. And the text is just too plain with a bland gradient and colour dodge overlay. It is the exact same with the crown.

Sorry if this comes across as harsh I am just giving my honest opinion.

Alright but I don't think you read it.. Me personally being a graphic designer thinks this is pretty good for him being a 3D designer to 2D there is a big difference.. This is his first 2D art is what he pretty much said give slack

Well I just need to say that your 3D work is absolutely amazing.

On the 2D art the text and the crown clash too much to me and the gray background seems a bit too plain, so adding something to take up a bit of the space would help imo.​

Thank you, that all took years to get to that quality!
And yeah, Ill make a V2 real soon and fix a lot of these things you guys are pointing out. I really do appreciate it. Coming from 3D its a whole different world and program.

Alright, So I have made some changes to the piece.

Now, some things I want to discuss. Yes, I am using layer styles and gradients. That is the entire point of this design. Seeing as I have never touched gradients or layer styles, I wanted to play with them. And for the whole portion of a reply with "text is bland", I refuse to put any nonsense like photo overlays in the text, or anything of the sort. Yes, I am using a splatter. If I were using cloud brushes someone would say the same thing about that. If I were to mess with the text, or attempt to make my own brushes, it would look very unprofessional and not look clean at all. I do appreciate the feedback, but there are certain things that do not relate to what I am trying to do.

With that being said, Judge this new photo as it is the better version.
