Hey mcm, today is my first shift working at mcdonalds and im super nervous, to the point where I would just not go and give up, I'm working on the cash register with customers and that's the total opposite of what I wanted to do, I wanted to work in the kitchen but for some reason I got this. This is my first training shift and a little advice would be great from anyone with this experience or works at maccas.

Thanks in advance

Basically, don't overreact with rude customers. Always count the change, plus don't get the order wrong. Just follow that and you'll get promoted

McDonalds sucks. Working in grill is worse than front counter, you should feel lucky that you're not going into the grease pit. Taking orders gets extremely easy after a few shifts because it's easy to find everything. The new $1, $2, and $3 menu fucked me up but it's still pretty easy

I worked retail since I was 15 haha. Customers suck. Customers are assholes. But just remember this will shape you into a better and stronger person and you will earn so much respect for people oneday when you go to shops and treat other retail employees with respect. This will humble you trust me kiddo

Honestly it's not that bad when you get used to it.

I've been working full-time at Maccy's since July 2016 so you can take this advice from someone who knows what he's talking about.

Your first day will go as follows:
You'll get there, enter your "clock-in" number into the clock-in machine and report to the manager who'll let you know where you'll be today and who your crew trainer is. Your crew trainer will tell you about the station you're gonna be trained on and demonstrate what you're gonna be doing, as well as explaining procedures (such as food-safety and cleanliness). Then you're gonna do it yourself and - for lack of better words - you're going to be shit. I've only ever met one or two new starters who have nailed everything in only a few days or a week/two. When I first started, I was honestly the worst. I had no idea what I was doing (I was batch cooking chicken). The best thing to do is to communicate with your trainer - he/she will know you won't shine instantly but that's why they are there - to help you.

You'll go home at the end of the day thinking about quitting, but this is the same EVERYWHERE. Your first day will always be tough as you're getting used to a new environment and new people. Especially if this is your first job.

During your first week, you'll start improving, but you still won't be that good. You'll start getting the hang of things and meeting new people, especially people who start with you in your welcome meeting. As I said, don't worry.

A couple weeks in and you'll be fine. You'll still be getting grips with things, but you'll probably have been trained on different stations and finding out where you really strive (front or kitchen).

-----

SIDE NOTE: I read that you're working on the register/till. PLEASE do not get put down if you get orders wrong or give out the wrong change. The first time I worked on till, I was dreadful mate. I actually felt bad for my crew trainer I was that shit. But a few shifts on it and you'll become a master - it's just about remember where the buttons are really.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me - I know how it feels to be a noob at Maccy's.

Minimum wage isn't that great and the people suck. I want to work at your McDonalds..
It's £6.52 for me - could be on £7.85 but need to finish those damn crew trainer books...

And yee my Maccy's is pretty cool, the people here are the reason I stay.

I work as a cashier for a local business in my town. The easiest thing to do is to keep smiling along with whatever goes down. I am the kind of person that isn't affected by insults, or rude customers. I usually try to run them through the due process if they are being rude. I will let them get stuff off of their chest, and at the end of the day I am the bigger person because I am able to put up with it.

TL:DR treat customers with respect no matter how hard it may seem/be.
