Help updating PHP

Hey guys, my dedicated is currently running php v 2.4 and I want to install version 5, I have tried 4 tutorials but couldn't get it to work.

If it is Ubuntu/Debian, apt-get upgrade && apt-get dist-upgrade && php -v

Depends what OS.
Debian: apt-get
RedHat: yum

PS. If you've tried 4 tutorials, you should let us know what you've tried and what errors you've had that is causing it to not work.

Debian: apt-get upgrade && apt-get dist-upgrade && php -v

If this is CentOS, its a tad harder.

RHEL 7.x:

rpm -Uvh https://mirror.webtatic.com/yum/el7/epel-release.rpm
rpm -Uvh https://mirror.webtatic.com/yum/el7/web ... elease.rpm
yum install php56w php56w-opcache

If its RHEL 6.x:

rpm -Uvh https://mirror.webtatic.com/yum/el6/latest.rpm
yum install php56w php56w-opcache

That is all.

Php, php5, are two different packages.
