Well, it's certainly better than a general definition as it gives information regarding the certain acts and legislation.
I'm on about the UK law here and when 'Company' can be used legally. Not the general definition of a company...

As stated by myself and Jackis16 - most sources stated are from the official government of the United Kingdom's website which means that the specified information is only based for the United Kingdom not the United States.
The term 'Company' can be applied to any business type in which is operational within the United Kingdom. Hence many Soletraders describe themselves as either an organisation or a company; with company being the most commonly used description.

I have been using sources such as:
- Governmental Website(s) - United Kingdom (www.gov.uk)
- Collin's Dictionary (www.collinsdictionary.com - https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/company)
- Business Dictionary (www.businessdictionary.com - http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/company.html)
However, I do not see how this disagreement is fully relevant to the original post. As the post states 'privately owned UK company' which likely refers to the idea that the company is based within the private sector located within the United Kingdom. It is likely that this organisation is operated as a Soletrader as they do not publish any company number within their thread or website; which means that this organisation is therefore legal and has the ability to maintain operations.

I would just like to point out that businessdictionary.com is registered in the US, so it's most likely refering to the US law, not the UK law...
How do you explain this:
