The hardest thing in my experience was getting players. If your server is good enough to retain players, and you're able to build up a community you'll be golden

All depends on how much work you put into it, how you market ranks/items, how you advertise the server, your setup etc.

I've been owning servers for years now and $200 a month isn't really anything to me, you just need to find a way to market your perks and advertise your server immensely but this could be hard for you if you're new.

Most owners who have owned servers for a while will you tell you that it's not hard (while it can get very demotivating); it's just easy to give up if you think you're gonna start losing $.

True! That’s where I had the most difficulty in when I ran my old server (that flopped due to lack of players).

I’m down to put in a lot of time and effort into it, but the thing is I’m not sure if I’m putting it in the “right” places or if I’m doing the right things.

BTW, would you be down to give me some specific advice through Discord/PMs?

Broke boy servers make nothing, cus they're obvious money grabs, ironic. From my experince, take your time, make it watertight and give people a reason to play there over other servers, and you should be raking in way more than a couple of hundred a month.

In my personal experience, the hardest part was getting players. I have failed for 5+ years getting dedicated members over 10 people.
Then I got interest in modded minecraft, and instantly managed to get a community going, I think it's just pure luck...
Made 700 USD + in a few months, mainly because the community wanted to buy me a new cpu, new ram, etc.

I would say find something that is unique and has demand, and be active and friendly yourself. There are thousands for identic servers out there promising the same shit. If you have a budget of 1k+ dollars, you can make any server popular no matter how shit it is.
Advertising is key, the more people that sees something the more will join. Especially when it comes to advertising with youtubers.

Well, I see a lot of people here who seem to start servers to make money and some succeed. I do enjoy running servers, but I'd also like to earn money for my efforts.

i made a factions server back in the day and made a few hundred within a month, it was pretty easy for me tbh, ended up getting fked over for the domain.. might b different now though

$200 a month isnt really much of a goal lol , just saying
What was your "strategy"?

I put $200/month since that amount is already a lot for me (considering my country's economy).

My problem is I'm not sure what kind would work :(

Discord Ads work alot - but you can also try YoutTube ads. Heard you can get some serious players with it :p
