I disagree. I have opened many servers looking for money and many that are eula friendly and barely made money. Regardless they all seem to have the same fail rate and honestly I've been doing this for 7 years. I have to go back to the for-profit model myself because I need to make money back for the time I spend on this project, not only that. It allows much much more money for advertising.

Regardless whether it's P2W or not it still needs to be a good and fun server. That players want a fun server, they don't just appear or dissapear when you change whether it's P2W or not. Sure my players liked my non-p2w servers more but that doesn't mean I didn't make thousands of dollars running a for profit server. (However I did waste all the money on stupid shit which was my fault, I was 15 and made poor decisions). I opened a server for profit and turned $3 into $3,000 in 6 months. I opened a server for fun and built a 40 playerbase that made like no money and I had to close it due to a credit card chargeback on one of the few donations we did get which was $150 in chargebacks plus $20 per transaction in fees totaling around owing paypal over $300.

TL;DR - Life frankly doesn't favor which you do..You just need to do it well.

Well when i started a Skyblock server it was pretty nice my first day sales were 125$ or something and i made like 600-700$ that month.
I just used a good strategy for money making you just have to offer some good, competitive and unique things to players and if they find it different from what other servers are offering and also is worth buying then they will buy it.
When was that? I heard it’s harder to start a server now.

Hello,

I’m currently planning to open a MC server, and I’m hoping to get profit from it. I’m not looking to make bank but having an extra $100-200/month would be a big thing for me.

What are your thoughts on the level of difficulty for a server to make money?
I myself have never made money off of a Minecraft server, but that is probably because of my low budget. If you have upwards of $200 to invest into the server itself, that should be good enough to get it rolling and make your money back.
