Hey, guys! So, as I'm sure most of you know by now, I'm the new Compliance Officer ("CO") here at MC-Market. I was recruited as a CO to assist in MC-Market's mission to make this a safer and more secure community. We are on a mission to make MC-Market a scam-free zone, as much as humanly possible. As part of that mission, we are exploring new ways to prevent our users from being scammed. So far, we've been making some good progress on that mission, but there's still a long way to go. I personally can't wait to see what we'll do in the future.

Recently, we asked the community if they believe that users should be expected to provide proof of ownership for the accounts that they are selling. We put the question to a vote and the majority said that all users should provide proof of ownership (http://www.mc-market.org/threads/47039/). Now that the community as decided that all users should provide proof, I'd like to ask you guys how you think MC-Market should go about obtaining that proof.

As part of my role here at MC-Market, I've been reviewing threads in the OG Accounts and Special Accounts forums. If, when I go to review a thread, proof of account ownership is not included in the thread, I remove the thread from public view and ask the user to include proof of ownership in their thread. Most people have not had a problem with this, but some have.

Therefore, I'd like to ask what you guys think. How do you guys feel we should go about obtaining proof from users and how should users provide this proof? Should they provide COs with proof privately or should they post the proof publicly on their thread?

I'm curious as to what you guys think. Reply with your thoughts.

Only provide proof when asked by as legit buyer and the proof could be joining an official MCM server and simply saying "Hi, MCM, this is <name>"

I agree with KJH, it's a pain to get proof and easier to just contact the person to join a server....

Join a server of the buyers choice, it's a good way to do it for lazy people xD

Make the og account section into a application form:

Example:

* = required

Name of Account*: [name]
Proof of Account*:
BIN (Leave blank if n/a): [bin]
Starting Bid (Leave blank if n/a): [starting]
Current Bid: [bid]

Should provide proof to serious buyers.
The community has decided that everyone should provide proof. This thread is not really about who that proof should be provided to, only how it should be provided.

Moderators should be middle mans
The reason this doesn't happen is because it looks really bad for MC-Market if something unexpected happens during a middleman transaction and a staff member is the middleman. Not really a mess MC-Market should have to deal with.

That's really false in reality. The community didn't have a chance to voice their opinions as it was a very poorly ran vote for it. It wasn't what do you all think, but more of a Yes or No. There was no intermediary option and most people on MCM hadn't voted or known about the poll anyways.

Regardless, this is the best way to do it.

I believe that a.) there should be some screenshot like from a "MCM verfied server" which has in chat Hi, Proof for <Name>'s Thread. oor something. and If serious buyers require more proof, they can both join a server.
Although time consuming (Kinda, took me like 5 mins, if that), It does prevent scamming and arguments over adding proof.
by adding a rule like this, It will stop arguments over what counts as proof and what doesn't.

To piggyback on what MooshyTracks's thread says, there are ways to fake all proof.
Here is a fake Mojang login page proof:

Here is a fake Minecraft launcher proof:

Here is fake in-game screenshot proof:

So, since neither of those methods of proving ownership work, the only way you could truly prevent scamming is by forcing sellers to log into a server with you for each one of their accounts. Good luck getting people to do that.
