Hi all,

I'm looking for a decent laptop for college (and then university) work. I have a budget of somewhere around £350-400, and it has to have Windows 10. Please remember that I'm from the United Kingdom so your suggestions should be for laptops that I can purchase over here. ;)

I'm not the best with exact laptop/PC specifications, so I'll need some assistance here. Any recommendations or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

All the best,
Tofty

I think your best bet is to purchase a laptop from Currys. Go in store and ask them for recommendations. To be honest, I feel like if you're looking for something for University as well, you should consider saving up. I just went into University studying Computer Science and bought a MacBook Pro. It really depends what type of work you do. As you're not doing anything intensive, I'd consider an everyday laptop from Currys.

Lookout for specs that offer:
At least 250GB of Storage
4 or more cores, because who the hell uses less than that these days
Good battery life, this is a must <

If you want something decent and good for further use, try upping your budget by at least £100 more. A budget of £500 will get you a good laptop for the price.

I'll keep that in mind - thanks!

Hm, I need one now for A Levels, as it's getting to a critical point in my education. I can always purchase a better one for university down the line if I can afford it.

Thank you for you recommendation sir, I'm heading to Curry's tomorrow evening to pick one out.

No problem, I wish you all the best with your A-Levels. Don;t stress over them too much because University life is a hell a lot more stressful.

I spent a lot of time researching the budget. I decided with the Lenovo 730, I couldn’t be happier. I’d check that out :).

Definitely consider looking at refurbished Thinkpads or Macbooks.
I cannot agree with this enough. The only laptops that have ever been in my home are ThinkPads and MacBooks. Until very recently, at least. They've always been my two most favorite brands, the former because of its robustness, and the other because of the operating system and trackpad. They're both very, very dependable machines.

and it has to have Windows 10.

If there is any issues with finding a laptop in regards to it needing to have Windows 10, I would gladly provide you a one-time free copy of Windows 10 Pro which you will be able to activate.

Simply start a conversation with me when you wish to receive the code and instructions on how to redeem it or stuff like that.

God damn, you're smart haha. Here's my personal suggestions -
If you're going for these type of things try to go for a $500 - 750 laptop. (459 EUR - 689 EUR)
Now, if you want a faster running one with balance on speed and storage I would suggest the following -

Specs -
120hz (Good Monitor for a Budget Laptop)
GTX 1650 (Fast GPU)
AMD Ryzen 5 (Pretty damn fast processor)
8gb DDR4 RAM (DDR4, super fast and 8 gigs, will be more than enough)
256gb SSD (Fast Running Storage)

I have a link for you if you want to check this one out, it is made by Acer and comes with an RGB Keyboard, it is Windows 10, and fast WiFi (Gigabyte WiFi 5). I don't know much about lower-end PC's as I use higher-end ones to scrim a lot in games, sorry if I couldn't help out. If you're looking for Computer Development and will be proceeding in that stuff, get a minimum GTX 1070 Ryzen 7, and preferably GTX 1080 TI. (These are typically very expensive)

Good luck! :)
I don't think that he wants a gaming laptop xd

less gpu power, go with one on the lower end like a 1050 for $100 so he can have 16gb of ram
