You felt the need to reply to a discussion thread with no intent on discussing the subject, and instead posted a dumbass meme that relates nowhere near to the main topic. You didn't have to post, or reply to this thread, but you chose to, don't know why your pissed over it lmao. I personally found this thread informative & interesting.

I'm not going to write out a long essay due to having to leave fairly soon and simply not seeing a point in getting into a long drawn out argument. I would simply like to give my view of the situation as someone who is actually from Texas and someone from Houston (which seems t be the hardest hit city since reopening.)

Right off the bat, if you believe that the sole reason cases have been spiking throughout Texas is due to bars and restaurants or other various gatherings, you're being completely ignorant. Bars and restaurants have very strict regulations in place which require that certain measures be taken to ensure the safety of employees and customers. This ranges from constant sanitation of surfaces, wearing gloves, potentially wearing masks. Alongside this, most restaurants have still been completely closed and are only open to carry out. The restaurants that are open for dine-in have put in place social distancing procedures through simply blocking off tables or certain areas.

Now are there restaurants that are ignoring these regulations? Absolutely. Yet I've seen over 10 restaurants that weren't following state regulations lose their TABC license and in turn shutdown.

Now we get on to the biggest reason for the extreme spike in Houston. Contrary to popular belief, if over 60,000 people are protesting and rioting without social distancing and with some people not wearing masks, the virus can spread quite easily. Who would've thought! The virus doesn't pick and choose who it infects. You can't talk down to people going out to eat or who are protesting the use of masks while at the same time applauding mass protests and race riots...

My last point to make is that while Texas has seen the greatest increase in total cases, it's not the only state. A simple google search shows that practically every state that has reopened has seen an increase in overall cases. Now why is this? Well, all it takes if for one person to infect another, and another, and another. Then we're back at square one with another outbreak. We can't continue this cycle of locking down and reopening, otherwise the virus is never going to leave. We have to remain open and allow people to build antibodies to the virus. This virus is destined to be similar to the flu in the sense it's a seasonal virus.

Im not american - but reopening is a extremely bad fucking idea.

Im from the UK, we have the biggest amount of deaths in europe. So many people have died because of an idiotic leader not doing enough. Yes, it hurts economy, yes people have lost jobs - but thats happening everywhere. Its a massive economic burden to the world.

The UK has only just started to reopen, even then I don't agree with it. If the US reopens now I guarantee a second spike in cases.

I quote this article from the NY Times
