I think the number of warning points should be increased before your banned for rule violation. I think it should be changed because its so easy to get warning points and 75 just seems so low. I think it should be changed to like 125 or something. I want to hear your opinions and before everyone says "If this is changed it wont be fair to people already banned"

I pity for you if you seriously read all the rules for all online forums you’re on.. Also you have failed to address my point about a rule that has a punishment or about half of the 75 points required to get banned. A single rule violation shouldn’t be so heavy, especially since it does not expire. I could have violated that rule in the first week of the site and it would stick with me for the rest of the time I use the site.
Somebody should just make a suggestion suggesting that certain rules need a warning point reduction.

I’m talking purely about MC-Market, not other forums, as that’s all that’s relevant here. If it’s a forum I plan to use a lot, and make money from, taking a couple of mins to read a short list doesn’t seem like a big deal. Not quite sure what would make someone feel so strongly to go as far as feeling pity for someone, who takes a couple of mins, to ensure they aren’t going to accidentally do something that will get them banned from a forum they are making money from. Unless I’m missing something, that seems like a very reasonable thing to do. A quick skim through is all it takes.

I’m not sure there’s a point to address. Half of 75, would be ~37 warning points. Can you point out to me which rule violation yields that many warning points? Looking through the list, I can’t seem to see one: https://www.mc-market.org/wiki/warnings/ The closest seems to be 35 points, which is:

6.4 Resource Contains Malware: 35 | N/A

If you’re posting stuff, that intends on giving people malware, then that should be common sense, that there will be some repercussions for that.

Next step down from that is 20 warning points. (4 violations needed for a ban);

4.3 Offering To Give Away Item/Service Without Intending To Provide It: 20 | N/A

5.3 Offering Buy/Sell Item/Service Without Intending To Provide It: 20 | N/A

6.6 Resource Contains Unowned Content: 20 | N/A

Fake giveaways, attempting to buy and sell things purely to waste peoples time, and selling things you don’t actually own, all seem like things common sense would indicate you shouldn’t be doing.

Admittedly, there are things on that list that aren’t common sense, and are specific to this forum for one reason or another. But they all yield fewer than 20 warning points. So I’m not sure what someone could accidentally do, that would get them half the total warning points for a ban. If I’ve missed someone on that list, that does yield half the warning points, it would be great if you could point that out.

I thought that promoting a competitor used to be 35, My bad then. Even then I think that rule wasn’t retroactively changed because people still have 35 pt warnings for that.

All of these make sense though but I still retain my point because it is very easy to accumulate warning points. I received a singular warning point for commenting “Nice account” on someone’s thread, since they were selling an account. I think accumulation of points on here is pretty easy to do if moderation is happening like such

That’s a fair point, lots of really minor things could build up if you’re not careful. Being warned for commenting “Nice account”, does seem a bit unnecessary. Fair enough, if someone’s posting it a lot, with the intent of post farming, but not if it’s just once.

I’ve been on MCM for several years, and accumulated over 3.5k messages, but never received any warning points, despite being a little outspoken from time to time. I personally, wouldn’t consider it easy to get warning points, as long as you’re aware of the rules and know what’s going too far.

To reach 75 warning points, quite a lot of small rule volations / wrong doings, or a few more serious ones would be required.
I was told to trash a thread (by the poster of said thread) and got 5 permanent warning points for doing so. Ouch.

If you want to live within your country, you need to abide by the laws.
If you want to enter any commercial building, you need to follow their rules.
If you want... expectations... etc.

So why is it that you think that it's perfectly acceptable not to respect a forum's rules? You want to use this platform? Then the very minimum we can ask you to do is to understand what's allowed and what's not on this site.

Have you read every law of the country you live in? Now, you may look these up when you are unsure, as users of MCM should, but NO ONE reads the entire set of rules/TOS/laws/contract/etc of anything. People skip to the end of all of them.

Just because you didn’t know such a law existed, that doesn’t mean you are exempt from it either. You will still be prosecuted for them if caught.

That said, the scale of a country and a small website is hugely different when it comes to the number of restrictions placed by them. It isn’t a Herculean task to read our small set of rules.

A lot of this comes down to pure ignorance. Acknowledging that the rules exist and choosing not to read them and later down the line saying it’s not fair because “I didn’t know them” is entirely your fault.

I think the warning points and rules are fine now, but in the past they were set up pretty badly. For example a guy that I knew from another forums was having trouble selling something since people didn't trust him, so I replied to his thread and said something like "vouch, he's reputable on {initials of other forum}" and I got 35 warning points for that.

At the time the site wasn't even considered a competitor (the initials didn't show up the site when googling as well), and the reports were made a few months after I had replied to that thread.

Because in real life I face serious repercussions and threats and on here I don’t. That’s pretty much the case with majority of online forums. Why do you think people exit scam and do other heinous activities on here so very frequently? That’s a very bad comparison Js

And you’ve corrected yourself. I’m going to stop here because this is heading pretty off topic which I presume would be an offense.

Right now I am in the neutral on this. My previous point Zyger has stated, I agree that the rules are fine but the moderation is most definitely not.

I've been here for almost 3 years and have only gotten 10. They need to deteriorate though. It's been more than a year and I haven't done anything wrong. I want those to go away.

We have recently further decreased the warning points given for advertising competitors and added expiries to all warnings, which I believe solves all of the main concerns brought up in this suggestion. 75 is honestly a pretty ridiculously high number to reach, and it would require rules to be broken several times within a small amount of time to be able to hit.

I think our warning system at the moment is pretty close to being perfect, or that the only improvement we could make is to be more strict about violations.

Denied, thanks for the suggestion.
