Please read everything carefully. Applicants who do not follow the directions outlined in this post will not be considered.

Overview

Let me begin by introducing myself. My name is Brandon Grant, and I am a college student pursuing a degree in Information Systems. I started playing Minecraft back in 2011, when the game was officially released, and have owned and managed several servers over the years. Minecraft always had a special place in my heart, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experiences I had while playing the game. Most of all, I enjoyed the opportunities it gave me to work with, and manage, groups of people who shared the same passion for Minecraft and had the desire to achieve a common goal. Unfortunately, as a college student, I have become increasingly busy over the last couple of years and no longer have time to develop and manage Minecraft servers, which brings me to the purpose of this post. I am looking to hire a motivated individual with a passion for Minecraft to oversee the development of a Minecraft server, from start to finish, and manage said server after its launch. I will provide funding for all development expenses and compensation for you, the server manager. (The description, requirements, and payment details for this role have been outlined below.)

Description

As Manager, you will be responsible for almost every aspect of the server. You will develop an entirely custom server from the ground up by recruiting, organizing, and managing an experienced team of developers who will create your vision. You will also be responsible for finding talented artists and web developers to design a professional website to promote the server, handle player issues, and provide a place for players to socialize. You will have a startup budget of $500 per month and will be expected to utilize the allotted funds efficiently and effectively.

Requirements
  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • Must be no more than 2 hours ahead or behind the UTC-7 time zone
  • At least 3 years playing Minecraft
  • 2 years of experience managing Minecraft servers
  • Experience using server control panels from an administrative position (Multicraft, McMyAdmin, etc.)
  • Experience configuring plugins
  • Knowledge of BungeeCord and how to properly configure it
  • Experience recruiting and managing groups of people
  • Ability to manage time wisely
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Professional demeanor
  • Must be self-motivated
  • Advertising experience
  • Must have connections with plugin and web developers, graphic designers, YouTubers, etc.

Compensation

As Manager, you will be paid $5 for every hour exceeding 35 hours per week. Therefore, if you work 40 hours in a week, you will have earned $25. Anything over 40 hours per week will be considered voluntary overtime and will not be compensated. However, if the server is doing well, bonuses and/or pay raises will be considered if you are consistently working more than 40 hours per week.

Payment will occur every two weeks via PayPal.

Notice: Compensation is a perk and primarily serves as a reminder of your responsibilities as the server manager.

How to Apply

If you are interested in this position and meet the requirements listed above, please follow the directions in this section. Remember, failure to follow the directions will result in the immediate rejection of your application. Falsified information will also result in the rejection of your application.
  1. Click here to fill out an application.
  2. After submitting the application, reply to this thread with your Minecraft username followed by "Application Submitted" (e.g., Tiny_BTG Application Submitted).
  3. Wait patiently for my response. I will respond to all applicants who follow the directions.

So you're literally saying that you'd need to work 35 hours a week for free to earn $5/hour with a max of $25? That's unhuman.

I believe you are missing the point. Compensation is simply a perk. I am not obligated to pay someone to run a server for which they are not required to invest. Given the monthly budget of $500, and the potential compensation of $100 a month, I might as well be paying them $600 per month.

No, Lars has a point. Most people 16+ can just get a full time job for the same hours a week and earn waaaay more.

I am fully aware that the age group I am targeting could find a job that pays much more, but this is not a job. As I said, compensation is a perk and is not meant to serve as a significant source of income. Had I not offered compensation in this post, I am sure neither of you would have a problem, seeing as I am essentially offering to fund an entire server for someone.

But you're not funding a server for them because you get all of the donations. All you're doing is giving them an opportunity to work their arse off to earn a measly $25 a week. You're basically getting someone else to completely manage your server for almost free whilst you just relax, throw cash in and receive donations.

I fail to see how providing $500 a month for a server is not considered funding... Am I expected to fund the server and give away 100% of the profits? I’m sorry, but I don’t work my butt off just to give away my money without some return on my investment. You view this as a job while, in reality, to many, it is an opportunity to bring a vision to fruition.

You have to understand that here, no one really cares about anything else except money. Also, all you're offering is basically money and an opportunity to build a server for YOU. Surely someone can just do that with someone else

I understand that many people here are solely interested in money, but that is not the case for everyone. You must realize, the only sacrifice I am asking someone to make is their time; though, it is hard to consider it a sacrifice when many already spend 5 hours a day playing Minecraft. Why not spend that time building a community?

Truthfully, I beg to differ. Someone meeting your requirements would be at least 16 years old and would have been playing Minecraft for 3 years (since those are part of your requirements).

Therefore, a 16 year old who's been playing for 3 years probably doesn't enjoy the game anymore and wants to actually earn money through the game. Not to add that, people who spend 5 hours a day on the game actually enjoy playing it and from experience, managing a server is not as enjoyable as actually playing the game.

Okay, obviously, we are never going to agree on this, so just humor me for a moment while I paint a picture that I feel will satisfy you. I will provide the monthly funding of $500 as stated; however, I will amend my offer of $5 per hour after the 35th hour to a fixed salary of $200 per week and, while I’m at it, I’ll throw in 100% of the donations. That comes to a grand total of $1,300 per month out of my pocket, with no return on investment; because, hey, it’s not like I need money.
