So my project recently has been to create a good, working iPhone 5s out of broken ones. I bought a total of 3 phones from friends, and swapped parts around from each to create one working iPhone. Hardware wise, everything seems to work fine, but after powering on I realised something.

The logic board is from my friends phone who forgot their password. I restored the phone and started to activate it, but then the iCloud activation lock showed up. Of course my friend forgets his apple id, so we tried resetting the apple id. To reset the password of the apple id, you need to input the 'trusted' mobile number. The phone number is now deactivated, and we do not know it. We looked everywhere to try find it, through messages in facebook, old contacts, and we could not find it. I'm now stuck on what to do, if I took it to an Apple store, would they fix it? Or would they think it was stolen? I have no reason to steal a phone, I have a perfectly working iPhone 6 which I use and wanted to fix another iPhone for learning purposes. Without much proof of my friend actually owning the account, I'm scared they will think it's stolen. What should I do?

Also, the logic boards from the other two phones are damaged, so I cannot use them (Display connectors are damaged)

Take the SIM to a store for whatever provider it is and maybe they can tell you.

He no longer has the sim, he switched service providers and got rid of the sim card. I tried contacting Telstra to track down the phone number, but they said if a number is deactivated they cant find it.

Agreed. Have done this before and it work (not the same scenario) but they got the passsord I needed for my friends phone. Honestly this really depends on what your phone provider is[DOUBLEPOST=1500359526][/DOUBLEPOST]
I think you're out of luck then...

My friend is honestly stupid to forget so much stuff. I've invested quite a bit of money into this and the phone is basically brain dead. The logic board is the most expensive part of the phone, so I don't really want to buy a new one.

Logic boards are like $150+, I might as well buy a brand new iPhone 5s for that price. I'm aware that the home buttons are specific to a certain logic board, but thanks.

That's how my two iPhones got fucked, and become useless, the icloud thing is retarded, I bought them second-hand, and one of them I forgot my password, so I went to reset it and it asked me for the original iCloud -.-
Now I have an Android Phone, happy with it :v
