I didn't even read those articles I just pasted them, but in summary they are blowing this WAY out of proportion.
So you posted proof trying to prove that I was wrong without reading your own proof?

In reality, this virus has the potential to kill tens, if not hundreds of millions of people. If you think that's being 'blown out of proportion', then you do you.

Take all the precautions you need to, but this is NOT as serious as it sounds, really. It's lethal when it comes to people who either are of elder age or have developed underlying issues. Influenza is the same way and I don't see anyone clearing out stores because of this. This is being entirely blown out of proportion. Wash your hands, put your health first, and don't do anything you're not suppose to. As for the individuals who have underlying health issues, keep them in isolated places with MINIMAL amounts of people and make sure to keep them clean if they cannot do it themselves.

The reason this is such an unpopular opinion is because of how stupid doing this would be.

Letting things run regularly and not shutting things down would make the virus spread faster, giving scientists less time to find a cure. If we did this, the virus would spread to people with weakened immune systems and kill them, as well as people with undeveloped immune systems and people who already are sick. We should be trying to self-isolate as of now, that's the best option.

I heard a state in the US (I think it was California) declared a state of emergency and is forcing everyone to stay inside. (& I heard Florida was considering doing the same) Going outside as of now and not self-quarantining is honestly really stupid and selfish. You can unknowingly spread the virus to someone who can't fight it off like you may be able to.

This isn't true, please show me a reputable article that says this. The Governor of Pennsylvania would not allow this to happen.

You're not being dramatic, self-isolating yourself is the best possible thing to do right now. It may be boring, but you might save someone's life just by simply staying at your house.

It is bad, it has a 3% kill rate or something like that. That may not sound like a lot, but imagine you were going to a concert or something will 100 people and you knew 3 people there want to kill you. Wouldn't you avoid that concert?

Considering everything, I hope everyone here doesn't get the virus. (even though it looks like we all may) I'm pretty sure the president of the U.S said that a vaccine/cure may be finished in development as early as June/July. (but it may take longer) Hopefully the toilet paper shortage stops by then!
Or it's just being realistic? I can't spread what I don't have and I cannot contract what isn't present. Why would I hide inside my house all day when at this point in time it's completely unnecessary. Local government officials for my county don't even believe self-isolation is necessary at this time unless you believe you have come into contact with the virus. If the situation gets as bad as California and a mandatory quarantine goes into effect I'll have plenty of time to sit inside and stay safe. Until then, my life shall and will go on as normal. What's happening in California isn't what's happening everywhere.

The reason it actually is such a big deal is because of how contagious the virus is. All you have to do to get the virus is breathe the same air as the people who have the virus do, and you'll most likely get it. Due to this, self-isolation is necessary to protect those who aren't as lucky as let's say me or you who have perfectly healthy immune systems and can fight this off. This virus also isn't only killing those with weak immune systems, by the way, it's killing perfectly healthy individuals as well. Sure, this may be a strand of the flu, but there is medicine, vaccines, and years of experience with the flu. This virus is new and unheard of. Coronavirus can also turn into pneumonia, which easily can kill someone.

Okay, sure, you can't spread what you don't have, but you know why this whole quarantine thing is happening right? The virus takes up to 2 weeks to show symptoms. You can unknowingly spread the virus to others by going out and living life normally. That's why they want people to stay at home. People right now who may be reading this don't realize they have the virus since it doesn't show symptoms for up to two weeks. You can't tell me staying home isn't a bad idea, considering you don't even know if the place you live at now doesn't already have the virus, but no one feels the symptoms.

The virus itself isn't the worst thing, but it is bad. It's just causing lots of effects on the world :(

Okay, that is very true that the flu has been experimented and has had MULTIPLE remedies. However, the coronavirus can still be avoided as much as the flu, but the virus has does have a higher ability to catch onto you if you are exposed to it. You can also obtain the flu by breathing in the same air as others as both are airborne.

I understand that certain countries, cities, and states have undergone quarantines but that's one of the points I'm trying to bring up. Just because California enacted a quarantine doesn't mean the situation is bad everywhere, or that every place on earth should be under lock down. If people wish to self-quarantine in an attempt to stay healthy or come off as being on some moral high ground then by all means that's their right. I just think it's silly to call people selfish who don't want to sit around all day doing nothing productive. Some people want to continue making money and living their lives. When the time comes that the government feels that the situation has gotten to a breaking point they can declare a quarantine for various areas.

The reason I, as well as others, think it's selfish as well as idiotic is that you're basically showing you don't care about others around you. By not self-isolating yourself, you could be spreading the disease that you unknowingly got from someone who also didn't listen to the countless amount of warnings that people, as well as governments, have given out. Doing something like this further hurts people who don't have a strong immune system due to them possibly coming in contact with someone who has the virus.

TL;DR, stay home or you're putting others in danger.

What's funny about that is that up until a week ago nobody cared about self-isolating. It wasn't until schools began closing that people all the sudden started caring and acting like this virus was an actual threat. The virus was present then, yet nobody cared.

People started realizing how dangerous the virus could be, that's why they started caring. This has the potential to kill more people than the Spanish Flu, we just need to stall enough time to find a cure.

It's not really about delaying to find a cure, it's about exposing it to people as slow as possible so that the medical system doesn't have an influx larger than it has to be.

some people cared and some people didn't. It's almost like its the same now as it was then isn't it!

of course in the early stages of the virus spread many people were complacent. Look what happened with SARS. It was completely contained to china and the rest of the world barely worried. A lot of people assumed the same would be true here as it is of the same family of viruses as SARS. Sadly as it progressed, because of this complacency it has infected most of the world and people are in panic mode now. Your exact attitude has got us to this point of worldwide pandemic.

Blaze. is absolutely right that you should do something now before you harm those around you. This selfish, primarily western, view of the world where everything revolves around what our "rights" are how we can use them to our advantage to make money in the world is exactly what caused this whole thing to spread so rapidly.

When does public health have priority over your human right to walk around on the street being a cunt?

Is the Coronavirus that bad?

Yes, and it has the potential to get worse.

I like how everyone is like "only old people get the disease, young people shouldn't worry" blah blah blah. Well don't ya'll know that us "younger people" can actually carry the disease without actually getting really sick. By carrying the disease, younger people can spread it to older people, which then leads to more people getting it, etc. People are saying that they should just "yolo" and continue on with their lives, which is really just retarded and careless of other people. Right now it isn't AS SERIOUS as it can be, but it very much will if idiots keep going out of their homes for no reason.

As a word of advice. I suggest not listening to news media about this topic because one: they always blow stuff out of proportions and two: they can spread false information. The best source of information is directly from government broadcasts and briefings made specifically to inform the public with FACTS.

Now to get an opinion from other than mine. I recently received an email from a doctor within my family and basically he said this:

If we as a society doesn't treat coronavirus as a serious thing, then there will be too many people with the disease to properly hospitalize and care for people. He said if this happens, there isn't enough equipment to help everyone to breath ( air respirators or whatever ), his friend in Italy, who is also a doctor, witnessed this happening and literally watched as people died in from of him, as they gasped for air, because they couldn't breathe and all the equipment available were being used on other people. The doctor in my family described the need to take this as seriously as World War II, as everyone in the whole nation is involved in helping win the war, in this case, against the Coronavirus.

Now I suggest all you idiots who say, "this isn't affecting me, I'm too young to get it" and all this crap to shut up, suck it up, and deal with the facts. Yes, it is affecting you and no you're not too young to get it. Now if you want to live in a time where millions of people have the coronavirus and are literally gasping for air and dying in front of doctors unable to do anything at all because they don't have enough equipment because all you idiots won't take this thing seriously, then go ahead. But I'm going to do my part and not risk the chance that I will see my friends and family laying on their death beds in hospitals.

One of my friends got Coronavirus and he said he would much rather die than go through the pain that the virus brought him. It hurts really, really bad from what he said and couldn't do much for about a week and is only slightly recovering now (p.s. he was perfectly healthy and a young person).

It isn't the same, not by a long shot. Literally nobody was choosing to self-isolate before schools and businesses began to shutdown with the small exception of those who actually came into contact with the virus. The world is in full panic mode because the media has been fear-mongering and making millions off of this crisis and conveniently leaving out important details such as the fact that the vast majority of those who have passed away were either old or had underlying health issues.

The reason this virus was able to spread globally was because world leaders were too slow to act on isolating the virus in Asia. We should've never allowed flights to return with potentially sick people.

And no, I absolutely have zero plans to self-isolate until I've had reason to believe I've come into contact with the virus. Again, I can't hurt people with what I don't have. If that makes me a cunt, then cool. I literally could care less about Internet opinions.
