Minecraft won't die for a long time, just because as older players leave newer players will take their places. But as for my friends and people I know: Yes, also quite a bit of youtubers have quit too.

To some degree I feel like most of the older players now that are quitting are being quickly replaced by a younger audience. I don't know about you guys, but I think there has been a large increase in the number of younger players in the past year or so. Because of this I feel like they will keep the game alive.
indeed. Especially since some of that younger generation is expressing interest in taking up the roles of content creators seriously (talking about 10+ age, below is usually minigames and pvp oriented). If those of us that are tempted to leave teach what we know to those just starting out, the cycle will continue

wow, I've actually quite enjoyed reading all of your guys comments :)
For me, Minecraft has gotten boring. I've been playing for 5 years in 2016 (tbh I can't believe it's been that long :( Makes me feel old)
So, I started running a server which made it fun/exciting again.
Then I got tired of that, and wanted to do some new and make something original. So I have.
It just worries me that I might of wasted my money on getting custom plugins made and what not. But we will see :)
Hopefully it will be worth it.

Obviously you had played minecraft for years already..
Do you expect the whole system of minecraft will change? Yes it might update but the point is the way it works wouldnt be able to change by Mojang.

What I mean is that yes there plugins and gameplays that boost your excitement and pleasure in playing but the system of minecraft eg. PvP and building would never ever going to change anymore.

It is not dying as it is still updating and, there are still more players out there playing minecraft (thousands)
How could that be called dying? Let say yes, during the old time mc got lots of new players but that was like, Minecraft just started years ago.. and now obviously old players of mc are looking for new things they will/can explore more whilst new players are not.

This is all just a cycle of any normal games out there
All of this are just your perception since you had played in minecraft for years.

Aside from that, there MC ologram links and videos out there about creating a 3d architectures using minecraft which is still in development

So how could it be dying right now?

heheheh.
1.9 drastically changes both PvP and the redstone system. The custom block model option in resourcepacks already affected building.
I expect the update after 1.9 to contain another big update to building, (vertical halfslabs? we can hope).

I wouldn't necessarily say that it's "dying", There are new kids buying this game everyday. But, as said above, a lot of people aren't playing anymore. Which is fine, because new people play this game everyday. I doubt it will be anytime soon, Minecraft will be "dead".

If you base it on Google searches, Minecraft is not getting as much searches as it did awhile ago - Which means it is dying slowly.
slowly, indeed. However, that's assuming no new things happen. In 4 years, a lot can happen.
I doubt it'll be a big thing past 2020 unless something very major happens, but I'm hopeful for more than 4 years still.

I've researched this question extensively by studying player and server graphs from the beginning of Minecraft to Minecraft as we know it and the short answer is as follows:

While there has been some decline in the population from the peak as we know it, it would be completely unrealistic to expect the player count to maintain or grow every time it reached a milestone and to label it as dying once it goes back under the milestone.

The number of servers has also declined from the peak of the number of servers, but that does not mean that it's dying.

It's like labeling PC Hypixel as dying because they peak at 33,000 players as opposed to when they've peaked at 40,000 or 50,000 in the past.

If Apple were to sell less iPhone 6s's then iPhone 6's, for example, it wouldn't mean the company is bound to doom, it would simply indicate that it's not at it's height for iPhone revenue at this moment in time.
Minecraft is not constantly at its peak milestone, like every other game, because that would be completely unrealistic and is unheard of to this day for games which gain any traction. Minecraft fortunately likely had decades to come and continues to garner new players quickly.

Every youtuber that did minecraft? You mean people like Captainsparklez, SSundee, DanTDM and all those?

anyway, I'm sure its going to become less. I'm also sure its going to hang on by the fingernails for more than 4 years. I won't be in this community in 4 years. But I expect to see a whole bunch of new players. Possibly a fully overhauled minecraft 2.0.

With the data you have available, your expectations are correct. It would however be completely unrealistic as well as foolish to assume that these data will not change in the meantime.
