R E C R U I T M E N T
Hey everyone! Overwatch Panel is looking for a talented Java developer to work on the rewrite of our Spigot plugin and plugin core. Things are getting quite busy at the moment and we don't have much spare time to get this done.

Your job will be rewriting the Core with pre-existing code as guidance (you will have direct contact with me, so any questions you have will be directed to me), and integrating the Spigot plugin with that.

This is a paid position. We are looking to spend $30-50 on this. The price is low because it's fairly simple, and I will be helping as much as I can. It's just a bunch of HTTPS requests with some JSON to read, commands, and some kicks here and there. If you would like to negotiate the asking price, please email me and I'll see if I can offer something better based on your experience.

Requirements:
  • 4 years or more experience with Java;
  • 2 years or more experience with Spigot;
  • Experience with popular JSON frameworks (our Core is using json.org's Java library);
  • Must be able to provide your full name and signature for a non-disclosure agreement;
  • Must have a sense of humour and be able to communicate maturely through Slack;
  • Experience with git
Bonuses Points If:
If you are interested in this position, please contact me at [email protected] with the subject Java Developer. Don't forget to include projects you've worked on! If you include something interesting, we might get an idea and have you re-create that for us (= profit?)!
Good luck!

High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

Those are some quite specific requirements...

Anyway, good luck finding someone.

Can I just state, a lot of developers who fit into all requirements, won't want to sign a NDA-contract for a job worth $30.

That is fine. We will work with those who will. The NDA will also allow us to discuss with excellent candidates about other opportunities with some of our more top-secret projects.

Regards,
Samuel

This is a shit load of requirements for 30-50$. Usually the brackets would be that tight if it was a much more complex project.

Personally, as a developer that pushes me away from wanting to apply, for twice this price and with zero fuss (no messing around with contracts) I could go do another plugin.

Signing an NDA is also something that people who are 18+ can do. I think I can name around 5 developers on this site that are over that age and would have the skill level required, most of which will just not bother because as I said, they can get a lot less fuss for more money from somewhere else.

I understand that you want to come across as professional, and that you will have guidelines, however for a project worth this much, it really won't be worth it to most developers.

I see a mention here and there about other opportunities too? If so that might draw more attention. So add it to the thread, the thought of further employment might bring people in.

Then again I might be completely wrong and you get loads of applicants. Just my two cents on this.
Hey, thanks for your thoughts.

NDA can be signed at 16 years old and be legally binding in some places (for example, the UK). We are not geared to certain areas. Regarding "I understand that you want to come across as professional, and that you will have guidelines" - I think this is also related to your NDA comments. Note that we are not doing this NDA to come across as professional, we simply have some confidential information that might be shared during the time someone spends with us.

As for the $30-50 thing, we might be able to go higher if someone impresses us and is able to adapt well. I understand that it's a lot of fuss to read and sign an NDA, however we will be discussing some private stuff for both this project, and any future projects we might have for the developer.

I never added information about future projects to the original post because I cannot guarantee future work for the developer, since it is highly dependent on who we pick for this. I will quote the reply in my post to see if that does indeed help.

Thanks!

Adding to that, we already got two applications, so I think we'll be just fine.

But yeah, still thanks for the feedback :)
