It is a shared issue, you are correct, both parties are somewhat at fault here. We should probably wait until a statement is made about it and what exactly happened.
Thank you for being the first person that has replied to me with some common understanding. Anything could have happened, there could have been a drive failure or something even, who knows.

No problem haha, although I do think I shouldn't have to keep backups and I can rely on McM not messing up, you raise a decent point. It was a learning experience for me, let's just hope I don't get scammed haha

Sigh, another 13-year old rager already resorting to curse words in order to defend his pride.

Perhaps you're the one who isn't reading the context of a post. I literally said MM work as a viable method of a safe online transaction lol, clearly you're too ignorant to see my logic. Plus, we're trying to run business? That's the funniest thing I've heard all day. 95% of us here are only here to make a quick buck, not to establish an LLC based on mediocre graphics or servers. Yes, important data should be stored, but most data isn't important by itself. It's when you have dozens of deals when collectively, the data does get important, but not in isolation. It would be a pain to record each of those deals by combing through, so you have to understand trusting the site does save a lot of time. Perhaps not the best solution, but if you're a busy person, a perfectly justified solution.

Last thing - if you even read my first reply, you'd see that I claimed it wasn't necessarily the site or the user's fault. It might have not been MCM's fault that PM's were deleted.
Sigh, another 25-year-old browsing MC Trade forums because he can't get a job in the real world. I'm 17, an no where did I resort to swearing in order to defend anything. If you notice the quotations, and then read a bit more into posts commonly made to and towards staff and other people on the site, such as Marc_IRL, you may see it's an accurate representation of the community. First of all, you cleverly changed around the words in your post (staff could confirm the edit) from escrow (in which you were referring to a professional company) to "highly-trusted MM" after you realized the ignorance in your post.

If the data is important and you could lose money, look at it this way. Would you keep your PayPal password memorized only in MC-M PMs? No, you wouldn't that's stupid. Then don't keep your records in MC-M PMs, simple as that.

If someone didn't keep backups, it's not just the Administration's fault. Also, lets stop labeling staff like they could help it. It was most likely a backend issue, with a small chance of it being something that happened from a panel. I'm just going to assume Chat Mods, Scam Staff, and Mods have neither Admin Panel control nor backend access.

I'm so embarrassed for you. You should just stop posting all together, nothing you say is rational or makes much sense.

So I just got on here, and I see that I have lost all my private messages and some of my reputation. Any way I can get it back?
I lost 10 rep, I know it's not much but I'm new so I could have used it ):

The data in PM's are literally just logs. Logs of statements, chat, etc., no one saves those types of things. I guarantee that in your transactions that you don't meticulously take screenshots and save chat logs in your backup drive, but it's still important "data", no? We trust the site to protect those logs so we're protected.

I as well any businesses worth their own salts does. Because the more legitimate proofs you can present at chargeback and/or scam reports the lesser the odds of the scammer being able to scam you (or at least get completely away with it). Finally by putting your data JUST on this site or any single point failure points is telling people that you do not care about those type of data. Every business that is out there for the long haul should be budgeting for protecting their data IN ADDITION of the operator the this site/any other sites you use.

The bottom line that only the person is most concerned about your data is YOU so you should take YOUR part into protecting YOUR data instead of SOLELY complaining about losing it.

Could you please explain what doesn't make sense in that? Lets break it down.
  1. If someone didn't keep backups, it's not just the Administration's fault.
  2. Also, lets stop labeling staff like they could help it.
  3. It was most likely a backend issue, with a small chance of it being something that happened from a panel.
  4. I'm just going to assume Chat Mods, Scam Staff, and Mods have neither Admin Panel control nor backend access.
1.) Person A keeps no backups of stuff referred to as "important data." Technical or mechanical failure would hold Admins semi-accountable, but Person A who has kept no backups of said "important data" would also be at fault for neglecting to hold redundancy on said "important data."

2.) Labeling:
Simple Definition of label
Popularity: Top 30% of words
  • 2.) a word or phrase that describes or identifies something or someone
Describing MC-M staff as causing the issue is simply false.

3.) Drive failure, accidentally deleting a SQL file, improper data redundancy, etc could have all caused it. People act like MC-M's Admin team did this to tick them all off.

4.) Chat Mods, Scam Staff, and Mods all have no access to the XenForo Admin Panel or the dedicated server on which the site is hosted.

Yet you're here, arguing with minors about minors who run a site for selling Minecraft goods and your only defense to things is just "nothing you say is rational or makes much sense," when anyone who speaks English could clearly understand each point I made. At least pieguy took the time to write out thoughtful counter-arguments to each of my points and we had a debate (somewhat of one) in nature, while you resort to simply belittling my comments to make them seem irrelevant.

Ever heard of maybe I didn't think this would happen? Clown

Well data loss happens regularly to everyone whether if a HDD/RAID array goes, human error, comprised device(s), and so on and so for. In short in the internet you should NEVER replies on a single data storage for storing important data. Putting your data in another location is both highly effective and affordable and beats even the most "bulletproof" single data server.

Your own passive aggressive behavior is belittling in it's own right. You call people stupid, you mock them, you try to make some sort of correlation between peoples ages. None of that fucking matters. Arguing with a minor or arguing with an adult, it means nothing really. Then trying to make a comparison with people's use of profanity, and how you don't? Hate to break it too you, someone with a condescending demeanor is far more insulting than someone who says a bad word.

My initial argument was that screen recording your Skype conversations is extremely easy to fake with minimal effort. You failed to explain how it's not. Your responses are consistently drawn out, and almost always trying to formulate unnecessary points. I said I was embarrassed for you, and you come back criting me with a wall of text. You're the type that thinks long winded reponses bring more validity. Unfortunately, in the real world, it's the other way around. The greatest speakers are those who can get their points across in the least amount of dialog.

Anyhow, back to why Skype is not valid evidence, and it can be easily faked... Screenshot or video, it can be faked the same way. Running multiple clients with all the meta of the person you're trying to impersonate. Visually conversations do not show actual username but the defined name of the user. I process evidence for a living. I mostly deal with tangible evidence, however, if I was ever working a case where there was mass communication involved, it would have to be validated with the company, or the DA would immediately reject it.

This site's scam report system is a joke. People make a complaint, they show some screen shots, and then the scam police ban someone. It's such a fucking piss poor system. If the site wants a bulletproof scam system, they make users conduct business on site. It's as simple as that. Anything outside of MCM should not even be considered. Look at Ebay, or Etsy, or Amazon. If I tried to file a complaint for being scammed from a deal made offsite with one of their members, they would just be like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯[DOUBLEPOST=1453766397,1453766139][/DOUBLEPOST]
FFS, RATINGS ARE NOT REP.

FFS, people aren't really complaining much about ratings, they're complaining about lost PMs.
