So I was thinking about this...
I personally don't really see a reason for a member to hide his profile.

What do you guys think about making all profiles public and removing the option to private it.

I definitely agree with this. Information that needs to be made private already has setting to do so, or the user just shouldn't input that info.

Someone's profile should not hold any personal details or information that needs hiding from the community. Checking someone's profile is common practice for a lot of services in MC-market and the privacy feature disables users from getting an overall understanding of the user, how they post, where they post and the sort of practices the user follows.

Sorry if any of this was mention previously. Three pages is a lot to read ;-;

I dont Support this idea. Everyone has a right to privacy. And you should respect their wishes to remain private. Staff I assume can see anything they want to anyway, at least anyone who has admin panel access. So if there is any need for staff to need to see someone's profile they can do that. So I don't think this applies to staff
So then this must be for members. Well again everyone has a right to be private. I cant just call up an ISP and ask them for the owners name and address of an ip I have. I dont see any reason to need to see someone's profile unless you are snooping. Maybe keep the information tab public so we can message that person and see their name etc but it should always be the members choice to provide personal details or their activities as others have said.

Yes, but fortunately our profile pages don't have our name and address on them. There is literally nothing revealing about a profile page, unless you truly have something to hide.

It isn't about what they have to hide it's about our rights and freedom. To censor and restrict people is wrong when they are not breaking any laws or rules. The world has gotten over sensitive about everything and people think they can just get access to whatever they want regardless of privacy rights etc.
Again this is my opinion on the matter. There will always be different opinions and 2 sides of a story

Exactly, the information regarding names, locations, profiles and a range of personal information is all hidden from the public eye (unless the user enables other members to view it). The profile is a place to enable other members to get an understanding to the type of user they are dealing with, it enables newer members to contact people easier and have a general idea of the user.

Our "rights and freedom" are not protected on an internet marketplace site.

My response is regarding "censor and restrict people". The internet is a place to enable users free access to any information they would like (within reason), by denying a user access to your profile you are restricting them and censoring for no apparent reason.

Of course it is. There is massive debates right now about Internet privacy rights in case you havnt Noticed. Just because I signed up on a forum does not mean want to be walking around naked or transparent just because you want to see my profile

There is no personal information on your profile though. What about that do you not understand? Oh shit! Gotta protect all my vouches!!! Honestly, what do you not want people to see?

I agree somewhat which is why i said the information page to check names etc should be seen. But you have no need to see all the tabs like where I've posted recently or in which forum the most

In some circumstance the posts and recent activity information can be beneficial to users wanting to sell/buy products or services from a user. Some people will use that information to gain an understanding of who the person is before confirming a deal with them. :)

Devon, Mitchell I've stated my opinion. Which we are all free to do. I am not going to bog down this thread anymore to argue over the fine points. Just because you disagree with me does not mean I am wrong and you dont need to have a moral rights argument here to do it. If that's what you want then find someone else. Have a good day to you both

I agree with you that there's nothing really damning on anyone's profile, and if there is it's easy to just remove it, but I still would like my profile to remain private. I don't want people writing on my profile, I don't want people going through my old profile posts, and I don't want people stalking and monitoring my recent activity. The main argument for this is to make it easier for people to go through a potential seller/buyer's post history, but they can do that now with the search feature. I don't understand why they need to make everyone's profiles public for this when we have a perfectly good search feature. For me it's not about the "personal info" I have in my profile because it's not like I store my address or anything in here, it's just that I don't want people watching my activity or posting stupid shit on my profile.

Would disabling people from posting on your profile be a viable option? http://www.mc-market.org/search/member?user_id=5250 you can search postings of any member already, I guess the only thing would be what ratings you give out that doesn't show. I believe that the recent activity tab could be removed as well, but I personally like viewing people's profiles before I do a deal with them.

I mean I guess. I don't really see the point though. You can just search the person's name and sort by most recent to scout out someone before doing a deal with them instead. I don't see why anything has to change.

Limiting posting would probably be a viable solution

Another reason that private profiles aren't the best is name changes. If someone changes their name, profile picture, and makes their profile private, they could easily confuse people. I have no problem with people seeing what I rate, but if others do then I can see where they're coming from. The whole "personal information" thing that Ac3dUd3 was trying to pull wasn't working though.
