We should set a value and release exclusive items like name colors, badges, trophies etc. That you can trade around the market for money. This is a safe way to trade because if someone scams, mcm can just take the item back and give it back to the victim.

Why would people want these? Some people just want these items to keep as a trophy but others like me would like to trade these around. I trade minecraft accounts but I don't even play on them, infact almost every account I have traded, I don't even play on. So it's the same concept, it's mainly for traders/flippers.

Who would get these items?
MCM could host auctions and people could bid.

For staff that think this is useless:
It will give you less scam reports and headaches as you can just solve them by reverting the virtual item back to the victim.

Nobody wants it, so this is a stupid idea?
That's not the point. Nobody uses a silver coin from 1000 years ago, but it has a set value. The point is to cycle these rare items around the market, not to keep them.

incoming staff responses 'there's no use for this and would just add extra useless work'

I think a lot of other staff issues should be solved before we give more work for the staff... Just my opinion though, although I wouldn't be surprised if most agree as well.

Thing is that a currency only works when there’s something backing it and if there’s trust. I doubt everyone is going to stay on here until they are retired (extremely disappointing, yes) and thus people will eventually want to deal with stronger currencies. Why would a scammer...scam cosmetics? You can’t sell MCM accounts.

So basically:

CS:GO knives except on a minecraft forum and instead of having a cool 3D model to play with in-game, you have a 2D thing on a forum while scrolling.

I really doubt anybody would prefer this over actual money. I certainly wouldn't. If I had a $500 account and someone said "I'll give you this really cool MCM badge" I would just laugh in their face.

That's not the point. It's directed towards traders, the item doesn't matter. If you could sell the badge for $700, you'd be a fool not to take it.

Sell the badge to who? If I could, then yes I would. Except that I can't think of a single person on this forum who would pay that much for it. You're greatly overestimating the interest and value of these things.

It's like an ancient artifact. Sure that 1000 year old coin has no use to it but it's got some value.

All it takes is one or two people to buy it off MCM which would already set the value.[DOUBLEPOST=1548642889][/DOUBLEPOST]
False equivalency. You can't compare artifacts to block game forum cosmetic items.
Tell me what's different about the concept other than the ratio of price.[DOUBLEPOST=1548643026][/DOUBLEPOST]

Explain to me how Bitcoin gained it's value then.

One of them people want and the other nobody wants.
You're missing the point lol. If there is a set value on an item it can still sell. This is NOT so you can go have fun and keep the item, it's to keep it cycling around the market.

Tell me what's different about the concept other than the ratio of price.

Yes, and those one or two people would just be stuck with it because nobody else would want to pay that much.

Low quantity = higher price
Higher quantity = lower price

At a low quantity and high price, it would be stuck with maybe a handful of people who would even want to pay that much and this wouldn't work for your idea of having it traded around.

At a high quantity and lower price, it will likely be exchanged more, but it would in no way be enough to pay for more expensive items.

And what's different about this concept you ask?

Well for starters, coins are collected by a good amount of the 7 billion + people on this planet. There are likely millions of coin collectors and many platforms to sell them. They are a worldwide thing. Coins can be kept forever and sold at a later time and in many times can be a good investment.

Meanwhile this forum is limited to like what, maybe 20-30k active users? And on top of that, it's a digital item that is dependent on a minecraft forum, the popularity of which is determined by the popularity of the game itself, Minecraft.[DOUBLEPOST=1548643531][/DOUBLEPOST]
Explain to me how Bitcoin gained it's value then.

Again, Bitcoin can be used by anybody on the whole entire internet which is available to the whole world. (minus the few countries where it's banned)

This is a Minecraft forum with maybe a 20k-30k active userbase.

If you have such a limited pool of traders, the results will be very shitty.

I mean your fact about coins is true, however I do disagree with your point regarding how this wouldn't work as there are only 20-30k active users. For example, minecraft accounts are sold on MCM. Most of these accounts just cycle around from people from the market. This indicates that the current amount of people we have is sustainable if we were to implement the virtual items because these items would move in a similar cycle like the MCM Accounts.

And yes we can have them in a higher quantity, I do agree.

no they should give out credits for specific milestones, e.g first post or 1000 posts or 100 likes

one credit is 300 dollars that mcm staff payout

I'm sure it's possible to have people trading around items on MCM and it being fairly frequent if the items aren't super expensive but it wouldn't be worth the cost of developing and it is just an extremely odd idea for a forum that isn't even that big, relatively speaking. Wait no, it's an odd idea for forums in general.

Also, you said:
"It will give you less scam reports and headaches as you can just solve them by reverting the virtual item back to the victim."

Do you think scammers would want to deal via these items or would they insist on real currency? And who would exit scam for one of these virtual items if they knew it's regulated by the very platform that they just tried to scam on?

Not to be rude, but I can with nearly 100% certainty say that this suggestion won't be accepted, especially considering when more practical and much less difficult to make things weren't accepted either. I just replied to see what your points were, but none were compelling enough and I feel like you really didn't put much thought into this. It just seems like an in-the-moment idea where you just thought "Wouldn't that be cool?". If you had added a ton of concept images and wrote a LOT more, I would have a lot more respect for this thread. On top of that, "MCM currencies" have been suggested and denied many many times, this isn't all that different. I see no point in replying further. Good luck.

I mean if they scam someone and don't give the item, instead of having to chargeback - they could simply just contact staff to put it on their account. And that's the point of it, it's like a scam free zone.

"I see no point in replying further. Good luck."
Thanks for the rational discussion, appreciate it.[DOUBLEPOST=1548645005][/DOUBLEPOST]

And even if it was "in the moment", that has no relevance to whether it's a good idea or not.
