Mature Section

So recently I've seen a lot of people complaining (Including Myself) in the shoutbox about how we can't talk about certain topics because they are not "PG". While in a way I understand where the staff are coming from with this, it's not fair to the older/users who act older to "pretend" to act "Child-Friendly". One thing needs to be made clear, it is not our job as a community to parent these younger users and shield them from adult content. That's their parents job, and if these parents are letting their kids run rampant across the Internet I feel we shouldn't have to suffer due to the ignorance of parents.

So what I propose is a section of our forums where users can discuss mature/Non-PG related topics without the scrutiny of "Child-Friendly" users and staff. Now this section would only be used to discuss topics that are Non-PG. This does not mean users can just go around posting pornographic content or stories on drugs, no. There will be no talk of sexual activities/drugs in this section. I've simply seen too many communities ruined by attempting to appeal to a younger audience whilst throwing the older audience under the bus.

Now that the suggestion is out of the way, I'm going to argue some of the points that will probably make their way onto this thread:

"This would break the theme of the site" First off, what exactly is the "theme" of this site? In one part of our forums we're selling steam items and in another section we're selling Minecraft builds. So do tell what our "theme" is because I'm just seeing us as an overall marketplace at this point.

"What if little kids find their way onto this section of the forum?" Simple, we have a message stating that this section of the forum contains explicit content and may not be suitable for younger users, viewer discretion advised. With this being stated, if a kid gets onto this part of our forums and doesn't like what they see it's their own fault for ignoring the warnings and the section itself shouldn't suffer to to one's stupidity. (Note, the message would look like this)

Last thing I would like to say is, if a staff member is reading this and doesn't like it. Don't just lock it! I'd like to see more than one opinion on this that isn't from a staff member, but your opinions are also welcomed to be shared. If you agree/disagree please leave a reason thanks!

I mean by doing everything for children and children alone the community is essentially throwing the older members of the community under the bus. Business itself isn't meant for children either. That's why we don't see children running shops and markets. A marketplace is also about respecting other people's beliefs while competing. I want to hear their opinions on this since this basically goes against them.

The problem is that children exist on this website. I'm not saying this because we're doing everything FOR children, I'm saying this because there ARE children and that has to be considered. It's not that hard to lie about your age on a website and for a website that geared toward younger audiences due to it's nature (Minecraft), we can't simply encourage mature content.

If they see something pornographic, that is accually illegal and mcm would be held accountable. You stated that people can't post it but can talk about it, which will slowly lead into people posting it. I don't think q mature section of any sort would ever work.

And this is the very reason why this probably won't be implemented.

Well since all the staff's main concern with this is the subject of porn, I have modified the suggestion. Topics surrounding sexual activity would now be prohibited from this section. It''l just continue to thrive in the shoutbox

I mean I've removed the sex part of this suggestion. I'd like to at least talk about some mature subjects compared to none.

Your kidding right? lol.... why would we allow the talk of drugs on this forum, and I bet that 90% of the sites users have never had sex nor know anything to talk about it. This suggestion is literally getting funnier and funnier. This even more so is why it won't be added.

Wait so according to this, if a person hasn't had sex, or been in contact with drugs they have nothing to talk about or no knowledge on the subject? That just doesn't seem right now does it?

Incorrect, It is just in general, this idea won't ever work due to our user base and we can't limit it. People can have knowledge yes, anyone can look things up, but we should not "enforce" the use of drugs for example. It is just a bad idea...

How would talking about drugs enforce using them? Enforcing means that they have to take drugs due to a law or rule. Either way, Drugs can also be removed too. I honestly don't have any topics to discuss on drugs nor are there really any at the moment.

Actually I was going to kick things off with a discussion on the war of terror, but sex is good too. Not all topics would be about sex and I actually modified the thread to have no sex involved. Thanks for your opinion though.
