Banned forever. Reason: Scamming (https://builtbybit.com/threads/dragoons-scam-report.245343/, https://builtbybit.com/threads/dragoons-scam-report.245572/)
But on Discord you can trade/sell/buy live on chat.We have shoutbox for this, which is a premium feature, which would be significantly less enticing if a discord was introduced.
Also, I prefer we keep as much of our community on-site as possible, wherever possible.
Such is the reason why we have private messages.
We'd have to look into many different identification confirmation options in order to set this up so that our official discord isn't full of people pretending to be someone else, or having no identity.
It's just not something MCM should look to for communication options.
We should instead consider expanding our internal communications if that becomes a necessity, which I don't believe it is right now, with what we have in place, though suggestions are always welcome.
I agree with Chris ^^ Anyone could use discord on a members name on mcm and scam or what not.Like Justis said, verifying identities will be an expensive pain.
Most users end up dealing on Skype anyways because it's just much more convenient than dealing over PM here.I've done some looking into Discord, and even purchased an integration addon to try it out. (https://addons.velocityio.com/products/discord.1/)
Simply put, Discord's permission system and the integration I have (which is the only one on the market right now, and likely will be for a very long time) are lacking in the functionality we need. The largest problem I have right now is that users can delete their own private messages in it and it will look as if they were never there. The only features that Discord has is a way to chat with others, private messaging system, and voice-chatting. A group chat is already integrated to the site in the form of the Shoutbox, private messages are private messages and voice-chatting could easily be done with Teamspeak -- which offers significantly more control and the integration into xenForo is far more smooth.
One thing that I do think would be worthwhile to integrate is to make the private messaging on MC-Market far better. If we made messaging similar to how it is on Slack or Skype or Discord (where you simply press enter to send a message rather than pressing 'Send', for example) then I could see it being used far more for deals.
Positives that private messages have over slack/skype/discord/etc are the following:
- Prevents imitators: With deals done through PMs it would completely remove the possibility that the person you're talking to isn't the real person (this is a large problem with Skype)
- Add staff to your conversation: If someone does scam you, you may add a member of staff to the conversation where they can view everything and messages can't be tampered with/deleted. With our most recent update, anyone can add a member of staff, not just the person who created the conversation.
- Simple and already included in the site: With PMs you don't have to worry about people having your details to contact you, you can simply send them a PM and you'll be in contact with them without having to ask the shoutbox 'What's _______'s skype?' to talk to them.
- Organised: Having all deals done through PMs could very easily be more organised than Skype or Discord since all of your dealings on the site are in one place, and you don't have to search through several conversations with people to talk to them.
There's probably a few more, but I really do think that rather than implementing Discord as an official communication method we should fix what we already have: Private Messages.
I'm interested to hear your feedback on this and whether you think this is a valid point or I'm missing something here. What I'm most interested is what makes Discord worth having and what features does it give over Private messages or any other feature of the site?
Messages can be deleted and edited, but when they are edited it shows a little (edited) thing, which could still cause problems with someone sayingMost users end up dealing on Skype anyways because it's just much more convenient than dealing over PM here.
Having a Discord server is like having a more functioning TeamSpeak / extended chatbox.
Moreover, the main reason people still use Skype is because everyone else is still using Skype.
The issue with Slack is that it's meant for teams, but Discord has servers as well as standalone private messaging.
But yeah the whole 'deleting PMs' would be quiet an issue, and personally I'm not sure how to combat that. Luckily messages can only be deleted, not edited.
Simply adding back in Teamspeak would have the same functionality and greater control for staff, with us being able to easily set people to 'Premium' and 'Supreme' automatically, etc.Discord allows you to actually voice chat with other members which I feel gets you more involved and help makes friends.
The issue with TS was it's not really a messenger, it's just for VOIP conversations. Once you leave the server all your conversations are gone and there is no persistence.Messages can be deleted and edited, but when they are edited it shows a little (edited) thing, which could still cause problems with someone saying
"I'll pay you $10000" then editing it to "I'll pay you $1" and other stuff like that.

There is no persistence with Discord is there? It's not like you can keep a record of your entire discussion in discord either. The issue with TS was it's not really a messenger, it's just for VOIP conversations. Once you leave the server all your conversations are gone and there is no persistence.
With Discord there's a global persistence. As I said, like a chatbox but to provide for a larger community base.
Yes, Discord is entirely persistent. It's exactly like Slack but with VOIP, and intended for servers instead of teams. There is no persistence with Discord is there? It's not like you can keep a record of your entire discussion in discord either.
What I'm suggesting isn't that we have people do deals through TeamSpeak or even send each other PMs on it, what I'm saying is that it works for people who want to 'make friends' and stuff like that. PMs do keep persistence, even when you log off you still keep all of your messages.
Thanks for your input of course
if you are bored just join this lol most mcm members are there we have fun n allTS is boring
