Should MC-Market have his own (Discord)?

My opinion:
Yes, Discord is fun and you can always use it instead of skype and safer.

I was considering discord at one point but I seriously think that it's just going to be messy to moderate. The advantage of the shoutbox is that it's on the website and modifications could be done to it when necessary. You don't have that flexibility with discord. In order to keep the public discord chats decent, you'll need a bunch of rules and restrictions which members have to keep up with. Not many will do that which will result in them getting triggered after getting warning points.

Just another place to moderate, no thanks.

And voice will never be taken seriously. Teamspeak was a good example when we had it. It was a mess when there were a bunch of high pitched voices with barely functional mics craving for attention.

Discord will bring more cons than pros.

There is no persistence with Discord is there? It's not like you can keep a record of your entire discussion in discord either.

Discord has private conversations which last forever. I suggest you look more into it.

Messages can be deleted and edited, but when they are edited it shows a little (edited) thing, which could still cause problems with someone saying

You can disable that in the server permissions for discord.

I saw a thread on xenForo where Russ was talking to the guy who made the current integration and he seemed pretty supportive of it, so I assumed another one wasn't being made by PixelExit now (but yeah, NixFifty has left so we'll have to wait and see).

Honestly, the only real problem at this point is that people can delete their messages, or is this something else that can be changed in the server perms?

But would we able to make a bot in everyone's private messages that aren't on the server? Even if we could I don't think that people would want us printing out everything they say to us, considering discord would be used for most people for more than just MCM. It is a good idea though!

Mick We wouldn't, but it's the same for voice chats and skype too. There are ways to document conversations (recording your screen as it happens). Not really a reason not to have an official server.

I think you are forgetting a big part of the point for a discord Mick. communication. mcm is for you a business where you want as many people as possible involved. discord is a good way to increase your member size. yes idiots can join it but they can do that here. you cant stop that.
As for messages that can be edited there are discord bots that log all edited or deleted messages on the discord.
what about discord PM? well who cares that's not your problem. you cant stop what people do in private messaging and you never will be able to.the only place you control is MCM and any person with half a brain will take a legit transaction on here if they feel something is shady. most well known members ask for a PM to verify the user on MCM if they take it to skype or discord anyway. i know i do

It feels like you are thinking of all the bad things and creating a bigger and worse bubble and then you are trying to control it. Its not your job to do that. the discord is a way for people to chat and talk to each other. all you need to do is make a channel for rules and say any deal done on discord Pm will not be monitored, simple as that. but i see no difference from skype and discord. skype scams are still allowed so why punish discord?
the is a lot you can do with discord and restricting permissions, if you and staff dont understand how to set it up talk to people who know how to. Discord is better than TS and Skype in every way and more.

Also for your shoutbox thing, not everyone who CAN use the shoutbox actually uses it. I personally dont like it but i would talk on the discord. and i would say there are alot like me.

We have shoutbox for this, which is a premium feature, which would be significantly less enticing if a discord was introduced.
Also, I prefer we keep as much of our community on-site as possible, wherever possible.
Such is the reason why we have private messages.

We'd have to look into many different identification confirmation options in order to set this up so that our official discord isn't full of people pretending to be someone else, or having no identity.
It's just not something MCM should look to for communication options.
We should instead consider expanding our internal communications if that becomes a necessity, which I don't believe it is right now, with what we have in place, though suggestions are always welcome.

With this, denied. We don't need an official group for MCM people right now.
