Hello peoples. After a few weeks of the newly implemented tree rearrangement I have noticed some of the pros and cons (please note that these are just how I feel about it, there may be some stuff I disagree with) of the new ordering of forums and categories and I am making this suggestion to fix the problems. The main problem I see with the current system we have is that there are too many forums which can be fixed by making some of them sub-forums. Below is a list of the current node arrangement and my proposed updated one.

The way it is formatted is the following:
Category

Below is a list of the changes made between the two arrangements:
  • Suggestions and Trash moved to the 'MC-Market' category
  • Discussion moved up to the second category (rather than after marketplaces and services)
  • General Discussion changed to On-Topic Discussion
  • On-Topic Discussion now has several sub-forums including 'Advice & Assistance', 'Development Discussion', 'Server Discussion', 'Tutorials', and 'Feedback'
  • 'Member Tutorials' now changed to 'Tutorials & Guides'
  • Off-Topic Discussion now has 'Hobby Discussion' and 'Forum Games' as its sub-forums
  • 'Premium Forums' category now changed to 'Premium Forum' under 'Discussion'
  • Most Minecraft Services now have 'Requesting' and 'Offering' sub-forums
  • Advertising now has two additional sub-forums, 'YouTubers' and 'Other'
  • 'Middleman' Forum renamed 'Middlemen'
  • 'Thread Drafts' now a part of 'Help & Support'

Please answer the poll above to give me your thoughts about this. If you feel that there's another problem with our current arrangement that you feel needs to be changed, comment it and I will update this thread to include it.

Thanks,
Mick

(Please note that all changes shown on this thread may not be implemented, but I just wanted to get the input of the community about this)

High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

You don't have to read the whole new node thingie, but at least please read the 'Changes' before you give a vote where you don't know what you're voting for.

The new one looks better in my opinion.
Something that has bothered me a bit, and it's more than likely going to continue being ignored is the resouce threads section. It's missing configurations, and the section its self is hardly, if not, ever used for anything more than updates. I would like to suggest a more direct way of approaching the section by having it with subcategories, if truly disired, but more importantly - has the section directly send the user to www.mc-market.org/resources instead of the discussion section for each category, where the only activity there will be updates at most, as it currently is. Additionally, promotioning resources more in general.

Unless we're merging "Servers" and "Setups" for the marketplace, I would suggest adding a "Setups" forum directly underneath the servers forum.
The servers forum gets a whole lot of traffic, and a lot of it is setups, advertisements, or randoms. All the real servers being bought and sold there get almost no attention; so I do suggest making a separate setups forum.
There is a setups forum in the services section, but it is more often the case that someone has some old server files, and they want to sell them. They don't want to offer services setting up servers. So a forum for them in the marketplace section would be ideal.

Other than that, I think the new arrangement is a much needed improvement of the last one. Good job.

The new arrangement is definitely what most people are wanting and would be ideal for getting other sections back in use rather then having a 'dead' General section. I'd be one to say that the updated arrangement looks a lot better then the current one and is something I'd like to see happen.

On the topic of sections I think that 'Accounts' should be invisible to unregistered users like in the past but if there's a valid arguement to why that is a thing, then that'd be fine.

Personally, I would still prefer the Discussion forums to be toward the bottom. I know that some of you guys don't like it, but like it or not, this is a marketplace forum that just happens to be built around a community, not the other way around. This forum isn't designed to be a discussion forum.

This is exactly why I give up with you, Mick.

It's amazing, you're the first businessman that's hell bent on losing money and creating stupidity, rather than the opposite. You should've just contacted Omniscient to buy his site rather than this.

I like it, but I agree with tjrgg that Discussion should be below the Marketplace.
Not really sure Overlord is grieving about now.

Mick Maybe you should send an alert to all the users on the forum (not sure if it's this plugin, but I recall a @tag plugin that would allow you to create groups so users could do @staff and staff could do @users).
Last time (with the chatbox), even with a large vote in favor there was still much opposition, the primary reason being lack of awareness of the suggestion thread.

Am I blind or did you remove general? I'm almost convinced you guys don't use any other forums. Most large communities do have a general / all-purpose subforum near the top. You can argue until you're blue in the face that this is a marketplace and that type of category should be at the bottom, etc etc... The popular consensus is that the general category should be near the top. It's what gives the community a personality.
