If I was to take a guess, I'd say someone used brute force to crack as many MCM accounts as they could, but made the mistake of visiting them from the same IP or set of IPs.

Brute forcing wouldn't be the correct term. 'Credential stuffing' is the root cause of why those accounts were compromised.
