I am considering making a minecraft anticheat. The anticheat I would make would be focused on detecting PvP cheats and such. I would also include movement checks. I feel like minecraft is moving more towards SMP and skyblock and away from PvP. Is an anticheat really even worth it to make anymore and would it even be worth it? Is it even needed by anyone?

Honestly, just seems that there's already enough anticheats out there that are well updated and kept up with. My whole mantra with coding is "Don't reinvent the wheel." That would apply here as well, but thats just my opinion. Feel free to try it, though!

Some networks/large servers are hiring anticheat developers to work on their private anticheat since people still cheat and find bypasses but public anticheats are not in demand. I would recommend you learn and get good at making good checks and then apply for a dev position at a server that needs an AC dev.

Thanks for the input! Right now I am learning AI and machine learning. My idea was to make an AI anticheat, but that is a whole other conversation. I just want to be able to make a product and be able to make money from something I am learning. In the end my goal is to end up making my own startup and try to make more money. I am not really looking for an dev position on a server. Thanks for the input, this is super helpful!!! :)

AI anticheats are a bad idea. They would eat way too much CPU, and the server JAR already eats a lot of CPU so AI in an anticheat would make things worse. There also isn't an anticheat (AFAIK) that has real machine learning or AI.

Good anticheats like Verus, AGC, Artermis, etc aren't AI or machine learning based and they work pretty good.

Also, if you need any help with anticheats, contact me and I'll help you out. SkittyDev#6899

Don't listen to retarded random devs, just join Minecraft Community Anticheat.

Yeah I'm sure they'll love input from some random discord server with classic roles such as "wheels on da bus go SPIN SPIN"

People are definitely still looking for anticheat developers for private anticheats, but I think it's unrealistic to create a free public one with the hopes of it being the next big thing, there are so many good and existing anticheats to compete with.

PVP will always be around. It’s still as exciting as it used to be. For anticheats, focus on learning the protocol, the client and the server.

Here’s some good resources:
Protocol: https://wiki.vg
Server: https://spigotmc.org (download buildtools and decompile sources)
Client: http://www.modcoderpack.com/

Forget machine learning for now. Learn how to reverse engineer the motion and do cross-validation of the values being received by the server.

It's a real server with real developers.

Some of the best Anti-Cheat developers are located there as well as a lot of potential talents and rising talents.

Sure, we all like to joke a lot, but we have an entire application system, management team and more.

The joke roles are primarily there for fun.
