In my country, you actually do not pay to go to school (there is of course taxes who covers a bit, but you don't really pay it unless you earn gold money) and we get paid to go to school, if we have more than 15% absence from school then we lose that money.
I thought that was only for college? Also, up till high school, education is free in the US if you are going to a public school, at least to my knowledge. It is funded through taxes obviously and based on the school they would take donations/fundraising especially for certain departments. Private schools and colleges are not free (I believe there are some exceptions where going to college is covered for around 2 years but I'm not too sure and would vary based on state). I feel like getting paid for going to high school really doesn't make sense, college is different as your responsibilities and financial situation would likely be different compared to when you are in high school and also college isn't a requirement while high school is.

You act as if people not going to college is a problem when going to college is the biggest problem of them all. Shit’s way too expensive and you’re forced into taking student loans that will ultimately screw you over for the rest of your life if you don’t pay them off quickly. My mom is still paying off student loans and has been since even before I was born

College is a scam. Don't go. You have the Internet at your disposal.

I don’t know if OP gets that college isn’t necessarily the best thing

There's no point ranting it won't change anything. It is what it is, just try to enjoy it. I finished school in June and I've missed the place. Not the learning but just seeing everyone and the environment. You think it's shit at the time but once you leave you realise how good it was. Personally, school made me into the person I am today.
I'm so glad that someone raised this point. I loved my experience in school. Yes, all of it. There were times where it was painful and hard, but what part of life isn't? I remember the goofiness of elementary, the strange awkwardness of middle, the terror of freshman year in high, the preppy stress of sophomore and junior years, and the sheer, unadulterated laziness of senior year. It was all such great fun.

College isn't anything like that at all. And before any of you make remarks abut how college is a waste of time, practical adult life is even LESS like it.

Honestly re-reading this entire thread seems to make you seem a bit like an entitled child. Awfully bold and completely idiotic to remotely compare modern day school to slavery. Yeah, the situation at Strawberry Mansion is bad, however, it has also been deemed one of the most dangerous school in the entire country. Comparing an outlier to the norm will never be an appropriate contrast. That's like comparing the Holocaust to a random drunken murder. There is also a movement in place to change Strawberry High School for the better, at least that's what the article from May states. You sound like you yourself are barely past 14 and haven't learned much about history by comparing things like that.

Your points on taking specialized classes to cater to your trait, I understand them, but they are useless. They cater to your wants AT THE TIME, no one knows what they truly want to do in Elementary - High School years, hell. Most people don't even know what they really want to do in their College years. Schools are a bit dated, yes, but they build the fundamentals for you to learn various things and give you an opportunity to enter a variety of jobs. The Pythagorean Theorem is useful to those that work with schematics, or construction in general, to build ramps or figure out the distance for varying design types.

Why om earth do you believe you should be compensated for furthering your education? You already are, it's called the ability to gain certain types of jobs after high school. The chance of you getting a job with no degree of any sort is slim to none. High school at the very least, opens the doors. College, Vocational, or Technical Institutions can give you a push through them, but not necessarily. Not everyone is cut out for college, and college is not cut out for everyone. There are plenty of jobs that don't need a secondary degree in order for you to get it. Imagine if everyone had a degree, they would be fairly pointless. In the end it's a piece of paper, if you don't have a degree, something called experience is a capability to substitute for it.

I understand it's a rant, but you should be doing less ranting about school and more studying to further your education, since you seem so set on college is being an indicator of a "failed" or "successful" life.
