Hello, My name is LilDevs, you can just call me Devs, thats fine by me. I just felt like ranting about the School system, not only in america, but in the whole United States of America. The school system is very out of date/non-beneficial to most people from kinderguarden, all the way to senior year in high school. Did you know that only 65.9% of people that graduated high school went and moved onto college last year? Astonishing right, almost half of the new generation is not going to college and pursuing a degree. That means that the school district all around america has failed if almost half of the people didn't attend college after high school. Furthermore, The school districts are teaching the wrong things. Yes, you should know the basics of math, science, english, and history, but most of the time they are teaching the wrong topics/formulas to use especially in math and science. They are teaching us useless formulas that will soon be forgotten over time as they play little to none or no significance in the real world. For example, If you are pursuing computer programming, you do not need to know the Pythagorean Theorem. You should be able to enroll and pick what classes you want depending on the career path that you will be pursuing in the future. For example, You wanna create a business, You can take 3 Maths, 2 Sciences, and 3 Englishes aswell as Statistics and Financing. These would be more useful while creating a business. You want to create video games? BAM!!! Art, Graphic Design, Web Design, Graphic Communications, Video Game Development, Film and Photography, plus the standard necessary classes. The school district is charging parents a large amount of money to have their kid learn unnecessary things. I don't know about your school districts, but I believe the Philadelphia School District is the worst. I am a high schooler in 11th grade, and everything that I am learning has been taught to me previously in 7TH GRADE. If you already take something, you should take a final on the whole course, pass it and then you don't have to take something similar or the same again. That's only 1 reason the school district of Philadelphia is one of the worst school districts in the USA. Another reason is that they are forcing us (the students) to take standardized tests, which aren't required, even though they say they are, they are not, It is just a ploy to ear the school money off of our hard work and dedication. That kinda sounds like something that occured before in america in the 1800 and 1900's (Slavery). Here is why it is considered slavery:
1. We are not allowed to drop out, leave, skip, or have too many absents's UNTILL you reach the age of 16.
2. We are not getting any money or proceeds from the school, even though we are the ones making the money for the school, and our parents are the ones funding the schools
3. Schools will specifically choose you based on your grades, If you have good grades, must mean you are an exemplary student right? The reasons schools do this is that they pick out the smart from the dumb to keep up their reputation as a school high and their income from the high test schools rolling in.
4. You cannot graduate if you do not have a certain amount of credits or pass a class if you have a "Failing" grade. That is complete and utter bull. You shouldn't have a set requirement for a grade. you should take a final exam for the class that is actually mandatory and does not contribute to the schools prestige or monetary value in any way, shape or form. and if you do pass this exam, you pass the class for the whole year. I have failed acouple classes because of not doing homework. I did everything else in the class, but just because I did not do homework I failed for the whole year and had to retake it again, even though I got a 100/100 questions correct on the final exam that the teacher gave. Seems like I knew how to do the work, right? According to the school system, I don't know how to do it and thats why I failed.
These are reasons why I believe that the school district is promoting slavery. Not only that, but it is also deluding others, revoking their right to public knowledge and education and heres why;
1. The books for the school cost lots of money am I right? They can be up to $150 per textbook. The way that schools pay for these books are the "required" standardized tests, but if you have a bad school. lets for example take the worst school in Philadelphia (Strawberry Mansion) and compare it to one of the top competitor schools (Central High School). They are both high schools, but yet very different. For example, Strawberry Mansion is in a bad neighborhood, They dont have Air Conditioners, Drug use, deal, distributes happen within the school and none of the teachers stop it because if they do, they will be killed or jumped (has happened before). This doesnt seem like a really good school, and anyone can go to that school, but they wont provide good classes, materials and other necessities in a learning environment. but then you take Central High School, It is a nice high school that has a very low acceptance rate, plus you have to have pretty much all A's to get into it and you have to write a letter. They are located in the city, a good part of the city, They have CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONING, They thoroughly check students that are suspicious of conducting suspicious activity and if they are caught with anything bad (Drugs, Weapons, Anything else illegal) they will be thrown out of the school. This school has great sports teams, equipment, learning materials, and rules set in place to demand respect. Now lets compare these two schools, Strawberry Mansion: Grades: Low D's and F's (Almost failing if not), Central High School: Grades: High B's and A's (Extremely exceptional). When they go to take a test, who do you think would get higher test scores and gain more money from it? Strawberry Mansion with outdated textbooks and learning materials, or Central High School with Brand New and up to date textbooks and learning materials. I think Central High School would have higher test scores earning the school more money than strawberry mansion. That isn't even fair to Strawberry Mansion, The school isn't getting proper funding to get proper learning materials, and if they do not have proper learning materials, how can those students even compare to those with the brand new learning materials. they can't right? It is honestly stupid how the system works. Each school should evenly get a set amount of money or budget that they can spend each month in order to update their learning materials, not by having the students taking a test to determine which one is better. that's kinda dumb in my opinion.
2. These types of schools like central high school are only limited to those who have good grades, but having good grades doesn't mean you are smart, and having bad grades doesn't mean you are dumb. The school system just does not make any sense. All schools within the School District of Philadelphia and other school districts should be public for anyone to join no matter what there grades/test scores are looking like. We go to school to learn new things right? Why should the lower end schools be stuck learning the same things that have been taught for generations and not newer things? They should be all learning the same things.
and this is why I think the school district, of not only Philadelphia, but the whole USA is failing hard and why I believe people are not going to college. I know it is a lot to read, but I really do have some valid points in here that are worth going noticed, or brought up to the school district of your state.
