The characters $-_.+!*'(), should all have no issues in a URL according to the standard RFC 1738 specifications.
Mainstream services also allow ~#%&=*;. Unless MCM has a special system in place that ignores these, then there really shouldn't be any reason to disallow $ as far as I can tell.
