i just got a text from nationwide about how i needed a code for a transaction from a card number ending in 4 numbers that have no relations to any of my cards. i don’t really want to act on it but it said it was about 65.00GBP and how i had to call them about if it wasn’t me.

advice or has this happened to anyone else?

Most likely a phishing attempt.
Fair advice: If you ever receive a call/text/email from a bank that isn't yours, or about a credit/debit card that isn't yours, disregard it.

I've been getting stuff like this too. They've been calling me however, and I've just been sending them straight to voicemail, just to receive a voicemail asking about a credit card number that isn't even mine. I'd ignore it though.
have you got any letter or anything in real life or just all over calls and text? and how long have you been getting it for

That might sound exaggerated, but seriously not uncommon. If it's their actual phone number, I'd definitely call them up and see if you can get an explanation. Better safe than sorry man.

You can save 15% or more when you switch to geico. I suggest going with that method. Obviously you should ignore that. Likely it is someone from Nigeria, or India etc trying to scam you.

They could have opened a card under your information (hence why your number is to this unknown card).

No I've only gotten calls, never received any texts (yet). I get like one or two every month tbh.
so far, i’ve only received one text today around 20mins ago

A credit card was opened under his name and 800$ was charged on it. He found out when he got a call from his bank saying he owes them money.[DOUBLEPOST=1550374363][/DOUBLEPOST]

But, since we were at basic training it is impossible to open a credit card, or even buy something that is 800$. And that is when he told them it was not him and to close the account. They ended up waiving the fees due to his military background and how it happened. But, not something to mess around with.

The best thing you could do is simply call nationwide, and ask then directly if you owe them money. You won't get a text from nationwide regarding this. Especially not on a Saturday night.

yeah that’s what i was thinking. it’s 3:35AM here and most definitely the same for nationwide, since they’re mainly a uk company. it’s sunday here, and i doubt they open until monday around 9am

They are all over the US, but they are closed on weekends where I live. At least their offices are closed which are the people who would contact you. And, I highly doubt any of them want to contact you for 65$ on a Saturday night (Sunday morning).
