Depends on the model of the ram. If it’s ddr3 that could be an issue, but otherwise you can stick to 8Gb. Do you have a cpu cooler?
This PC was built about 7-8 years ago, I would assume it is DDR3.

Alright. Let me just go and squeeze a little more ram in this config.
It is DDR3, also my current graphics card is an R7 700 series. I always thought it was a R7 7700 series. Whoops. xD

I also have a 400 watt power supply, is that enough to run all the new stuff?

I can keep the ram even if I have AM3 sockets? Looking to go to all AM4 sockets.
If you want the computer for minecraft don't go with AMD go with a nvidia card, if you play minecraft versions 1.8 or 1.7 because I have a rx580 8gb and for minecraft I get 70fps while playing hcf and with my gtx1050ti I got around 250+ while playing hcf and other things too. But if you playing versions like minecraft 1.13 then the AMD gpu should be good because its more optimized. And another thing when I upgraded to the rx580 8gb I can't record with obs it just glitches when I try to record in 120fps with the cpu and gpu encoder, and with my gtx1050ti I was able to record up to 240fps with my gpu and cpu encoder. The rx580 is kinda a new card so it might be the drivers that makes it so bad for minecraft.

I play on 1.8 only with optifine and 5zig.

I personally prefer AMD normally, however would not mind going GTX on a GPU. I am able to run around 100+ fps on minecraft right now if there are ZERO to very few entities. (Normally only on skyblock servers)

I just wouldn't recommend the rx580 for minecraft because I can probably switch to a rx460 and get better performance for minecraft.

400 watts should be enough. All the power hungy components only take 270 watts.
Here is the updated list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/4HXy3b
I switched to an RX 580 due to it having LITERALLY the same performance as a GTX 1060 6gb. Managed to get some nice Corsair ram in this build. This is a beast for streaming and playing games.
Glad I could help.

Hmm, seems nice. Would it better to go with a 1060 or 1070 rather than the RX 580?

1070 will be a hefty price tag. The 1060 though is exactly the same performance.

A 1070 Would limit how much ram you can get and the quality of your motherboard, stick with a 580 or 1060
Awesome thanks :)
