Hello,

I would like to create forum/website for my upcoming Minecraft server. I don't really have any experience in the area of web development, nor with html/css coding. I'm basically looking for the most cost-effective solutions for a server forum (at the least). Any advice regarding this would be most appreciated :)

Thanks,
Cooleeo

Hello,

There are many free forum softwares or panels that you can use for a server forum without knowing any HTML/CSS or knowing very little.

Free forum software (install to own host) -
https://www.phpbb.com/
https://mybb.com/

Gaming Web Builder -
https://www.enjin.com/ (Free host with paid plans + many Minecraft servers use this)

Web Builder -
https://wordpress.com/ - (Free host but limited)
https://wordpress.org/ - (Upload to own host)

Many Minecraft Servers and this forum also use - https://xenforo.com/ however this is quite expensive especially if you looking for a cost effective site.

I hope this has helped you a bit, if need any more advice, etc feel free to reply or PM me. :)

Kind Regards

Thank you for your detailed reply. I've used Enjin before and I was planning on trying to lead away from it. Again, I've tried using Wordpress.com but it is very limited like you stated. With these own host softwares, how exactly are they run? Do I host them from my computer? If so, does it's speed depend on my internet bandwidth?

Thanks again.

Your welcome! :)

If you used something like phpbb which requires it own host, you would have to register with a free web host like https://www.000webhost.com/ or go with a paid host which acourse offers more like - https://godaddy.com/ and install the software onto the host using their ftp (file transfer protocol) or sometimes hosts offer things like phpbb already installed or install with a click of a button on their control panel.

If you want something like phpbb, etc I recommend looking at different hosts to see which ones are the best (both hosts above are only examples and there may be a better one out there - used 000webhost though in the past and they are pretty good but hasn't used godaddy...I just know it a popular host)

I hope I have helped some more and be happy to keep helping you till you are sorted so again feel free to reply or PM. :)

Kind Regards
