I dont think there is an issue with ads per se. I mean, I often say hi in the chat and get no reply. Its not like you would be sat in there all day if it wasn't for the ads lol. Nor is it the case that the ads are making it harder to chat - Im pretty sure it would be equally as quite if the ads were removed, lets be honest.

But I 100% agree that there needs to be some sort of limit on the frequency. There is no need at all to post an ad 9 minutes after the last in a chat box like this.

How that is implemented without impacting "normal chat" I dont know. But agree, I think it could be improved in there was some sort of limit.

The entire point of this website is to sell products. There is a forum for sellers to offer their services and buyers to look for services.

Shoutbox was nice before because it wasn’t just filled with ads at all times. It harbored meaningful communication between users and built community.

We all know the reasoning behind allowing non-rank users to use shoutbox after the migration was to boost the activity of the infamous ad-box, and try to revive it to once again harbor community. That has failed.

Why do we need two sources of advertisements? I can see services in the forums. I can see them in shoutbox. The shoutbox serves no purpose other than for ads now, and it is redundant and defeats the entire purpose of having a forum. It’s like we’ve devolved to some IRC-based marketplace.

How about we get rid of shoutbox because it’s not even used for communication anyways, and we can harbor a community on Discord, Telegram, or any alternative like normal site operators do when they want to build an active community.

That has failed.
Because there was a Discord for Ultimate users created, where the typically most frequent chatters reside.

So the brilliant idea the administration had was to try and boost shoutbox activity by allowing non-rank users to chat… and then create a Discord for the most active members. And then be confused as to why the shoutbox is just like it was pre-migration, filled with ads and no conversation. Awesome!

But seriously, if MC-Market wants to have a community, they should reconsider the outdated idea of a shoutbox and maybe integrate all users into a Discord. A Discord with just Ultimate users benefits no one except Mick’s wallet.

I honestly don't see a purpose of removing the permission to advertise in a shoutbox on a forum marketplace. If you truly despise seeing the advertisements that frequently, there's an option to disable chat. Though I do believe it can get annoying at times - general conversations typically override advertisement messages anyways, meaning that if two or more users uphold a conversation in shoutbox, the advertisements usually get flooded out pretty quickly.

I agree with Landon here tbh. It seems like a majority of users I saw previously using the adbox as a shoutbox has diminished. Maybe I am on at the wrong times, maybe they are speaking in the ultimate-only discord, idk, but there are never any meaningful conversations. Not even business-related ones. I post a question for the intended use, for example "Could anyone look at a UI design, no experience needed" and then 3-4 minutes later it is already flooded out by other users advertising their threads with no one giving a response....

why remove ads in chat when you can create 2 chatrooms. one with ads and one with normal msgs
Because, at that point, hopefully people would opt in for the one without ads, and then the shoutbox with ads only would just become useless because no one would see the ads.

BOOP Thanks for the disagree. Would love to see what part of my statement you disagree with?

also mick already said he plans to open the discord to all users at some point in the future iirc

Ratio + L + Ur clapped + Chatbox ads >>>

Okay in all seriousness though, some users have purchased an upgrade specifically to get their threads noticed more so I disagree to your idea.

I would make the ad frequency dynamic, therefore people would get less annoyed and be more likely to chat and start conversations.

I would like to heavily express how effective (granted, annoying) chatbot advertising can be, and I will go as far to provide some statistics.

In this graphic, you can see "transitions", which show how users find, and leave a website. You can see, when looking at source websites specifically, MC-Market makes up for 67% of our website-sourced views. I'm sure it is safe to say, for people using the chatbox as often as we are, the results would be similar. It is truly a good, free, go-to for advertising what people create.

If anything, could the time between advertisements be expanded, to allow for more conversation in-between? Time for people to digest what was said earlier.

It is not uncommon for there to be 1-2 hour breaks in conversation, the current once per 20 min rule is partially to blame for the chatbox filling as it is. What you are actually seeing is, a drop in user activity on site, meaning less natural conversation in chat, meaning seeing double ads (that are perfectly "legal").

Does your 67% differentiate between shoutbox clicks vs. clicks from thread(s)?
