Opinion on song leaks?

I just watched a video about the music leaking community and I have mixed thoughts on the subject. I'd like to know your opinions on the matter and maybe we can create some discussion.

I feel like there is 2 sides to music leaking. I will explain my opinions on them.

Songs That Wont Be Used:

If an artist has made songs but doesn't plan on releasing them I feel like leaking these is fine. There will always be songs people like but the artist/their label decide not to release, so leaking them does not affect the artist in any way because it won't ruin attention the song has when it releases since it won't release.

Songs That Will Be Used:

If an artist has made a song and it is getting released let's say 2 months from today. Then leaking the song would affect the artist in a big way because people will already be listening to it, and by the time it releases it wouldn't get the attention it's meant to.

Overall I think leaking songs is fine as long as the artist does not have plans on releasing it.

Well said. I think that what happens to an artist's music should be up to the artist and not a bunch of kids on leak sites. Spotify should be cracking down on leaks, alongside YouTube and Soundcloud. It's not really against Discord's TOS but I think it won't be too long before Discord catches wind of these people.

I don't support song leaking but I don't mind listening to leaks. usually they sound pretty lackluster because of the lack of mastering and I sometimes just can't be bothered enough to upload it to apple music so I can listen to it and I don't like the youtube music player, so yeah.

It can end up with a huge money loss for the artist.
