This isn’t surprising at all to me. Mojang/Microsoft for years have been trying to gain more control over the community and impose their ridiculous new features in the name of “security.” They don’t care about security, they only care about control and profits. They want total control over everything. The Bedrock edition is a prime example of this. Skins, resource packs, and even maps are monetized, alongside Minecoins as an actual currency for everything.

I fully believe and expect the Java edition at some point to be phased out in one final blow (might be years) to finally force us into a completely centralized version where creativity is limited and monetized.[DOUBLEPOST=1603378025][/DOUBLEPOST]Also the cape is a pathetic gesture to keep people satisfied with their piss poor decisions. The cape will be worth absolutely nothing as nearly every user will have one.

I'm going to give my honest opinion on this. Personally, I don't like the new migration. People are like "OOOooooOOOo free cape I'm in". However, in my opinion, this will make capes less rare. In the article it says "and you’ll get an opportunity to participate and receive your cape! Or is that capes? Hmm." and let's say there are multiple capes it takes away the value. Currently, the only way to obtain a cape on Java is to either be a Mojang employee, make maps for the realms or attend a Minecon event (before they stopped).

When they mentioned "capes" in the article I immediately thought "are they going to sell capes in the future" and I honestly hope I'm wrong. I get they have good intentions but I just don't agree. I think they should just upgrade the current servers it's running on and implementing 2FA rather than a full-on new migration.

I know I will most likely get hate on disagreeing with the capes but that's just my opinion.

If were being honest here this was bound to happen the day Microsoft bought Minecraft.

I also wouldn't be surprised if they announced cross play between java and bedrock was in the process.

I feel like Java being phased out has a higher probability than being able to crossplay with bedrock. They’d run into some problems by merging the two editions.

Was gonna say this but... no one wants to hear that they would just kill off java.

Also there will always be problems but this is totally possible being that just community developers have done this but quit because bedrock is a pain to do anything with. Mojang has the source for both so I wouldn't rule this out. It is the expensive route but replacing java would just kill the game but making cross play so lil timmy on xbox can play on some java servers says different.

I expected it but I'm still disappointed. The whole cape thing is a joke though.

I like the 2FA bit of it but that's pretty much it. I feel like it's going to be easier to loose access to your account this way whether Microsoft suspend it or something else (Not sure if Microsoft bans their accounts but I feel like if they do it's more likely to happen with their account then with a Mojang account)
