Accounts that have names of rappers, singers, movie/show characters, song/show names, youtube names, and so on should go in the semi-og section and not the OG section. Right now, people argue about what section an account belongs in. This is especially true when the username has a basis in pop culture. Accounts that I have recently seen that could go under pop culture is ZexyZek and Sasuke just to name two. These 2 names are popular among those who know of the youtuber or the character but for those you don't, it doesn't mean anything. It would be much easier to find accounts that have a pop culture reference if it all went in 1 section, and it becomes easier to moderate (Yes, the argument can be made that nobody moderates that section as of right now but if this is accepted, it makes getting a moderator to moderate that section somewhat easier).
Names like Logic would still go in OG because Logic is an actual word not just a pop culture reference.
There may be a few names that should still go in OG because of how long that reference has been around and how known it is. However, that can be up for debate too.
I have seen suggestions about a forum dedicated to these sort of accounts but I don't think there are enough of them to validate a whole section for pop culture accounts.

I just want to see what people think of this idea and what circumstances should be around it.

Okay. Why?
People need their labels. They couldn't stand if their accounts weren't labelled OG (reflected in the community). I like the idea as an effective solution; but people need to get their heads around their accounts not being labelled as they would have been.

Username accounts, rank accounts, cape accounts, private accounts, and stat accounts (soon, hopefully). Sounds good to me. Of course, people could always mark their threads as a much higher price to show up in "OG" searches, so that may be an issue.

I don't think that it is fair to immediately move any non-english words out of the OG section just because of their pop culture status. With names like Pikachu, Homer and other incredibly well-known characters I don't think it is fair to immediately throw them in with the Semis.

The fundamental question I guess we have to ask is why we have them separate in the first place. Does separating OGs from Semis actually provide any benefit? The reason that it is so difficult to decide where an account should go is that nobody has an actual definition of what OG or Semi-OG means. In a few months, we hope to implement a filtering system, which would allow people to filter by price or other measures. Once this is implemented, what is everyone's thoughts on removing this rudimentary line in the sand and instead putting all accounts with a special username in a single forum?
As our filtering system is coming closer and closer to implementation I'd like to open this thread up again about this topic.

Instead of using OG, Semi-OG, Rank, and Cape subforums, what is everyone's thoughts on us putting all Minecraft account sales in the same forum with filters for OG, Semi, Rank, and Cape? That way it would be possible for an OG account with a 2016 cape and MVP+ on Hypixel to be seen as a part of all 3, rather than just OG or Cape?

The current system we have is unintuitive in my opinion, and the only reason why we like it at the moment is that many of our established members are used to the way that it is since it has never changed.

It can't be done wrong, the riot that would result from that wouldn't be pretty.

I suggest the team take a look at sites like CarGurus, these sites deal with a similar listing style, it may be beneficial to take inspiration from some of their features. Off the top of my head: Owner history (from MCM threads, potentially flagging previous owners who have been banned), Known server bans, publicly available server stats, price range filtering and easy ways to flag certain features of an account users want (high thread/NameMC views, few/1 previous owners, no bans on record). These kinds of tools would make the change worth using for buyers, and worth adapting threads for for sellers.

I would like to stress the importance of moderating these features. Sellers are going to flag accounts with features they do not have, which is easy to combat in cars, as some cars just don't have certain features, but in accounts it may be more difficult. If MCM is not actively monitoring these features, users will not trust listings as accurate, and may degrade these features' value.

Things you may want to consider:
Would it be possible to update legacy threads to work with the filtering system? Can this be done in efficiently, or is it a one by one process? Having to go through one by one is discouraging for users with high volumes of threads (For instance, premade build sellers, account sellers, etc.) and may see high numbers of legacy threads being excluded.

Will there be any systems that may automatically scan legacy threads and fill in basic parameters to include legacy threads in the new system without user interaction?

What are some ways this system will be abused and how can the site's users respond to this inevitable abuse?

But definitely add it. Even a rudimentary version is better than the current version.

If this is to be implemented, it would have to be moderated heavily to ensure that users aren't putting false information down in order for their accounts to display under any filter.

We're not going to be making any changes to our Minecraft account sales systems on the forum at this time.

Denied, thanks for the suggestion
