Hi, I'm Kalob.

Find out why I made this thread...
Hello everyone.

I've been browsing this forums for a few months, looking over what people offer. As a web developer, I am shocked to see some of the people are doing so well on this site.

A web developer is, consequently, someone who should be able to create something special and unique. As I read over the many, many, threads that offer development services, I see only inexperienced developers who sell customized templates.

Editing an image, throwing in a few lines of code and calling it your own, is not what web development is about. A cheap website is not a good website.

If you're paying less than $20 for a site, you're not getting anything custom. You're not working with an experienced developer. You're not working with a person who takes pride in their work.

Some of the more popular devs on here, I see, use the same 3 templates for their customers. How can the customers even be satisfied with that -- when you order a website, do you not check to see that it is unique? I know that most of the developers remove any trace of a template, but the designs all resemble each other in an astounding fashion that no one has seemed to catch.

I was just wondering why people waste good money.

I will be around on the forums, thanks for reading.

Since this is a forums where I must offer or request something, I will offer web development services.

I am very experienced (actually experienced) in many languages. Advanced HTML5/CSS3, PHP, JS, AngularJS/Node (new, but I know my way around it), and Java. I do have a website (https://kalob.net), on the website I do not offer a look into other websites I have worked on, but I do have a list of my professional experiences.

I suppose the amount that I will charge will be on a per-website basis. If you want a simple splash page, I will not charge you an insane amount. Almost anything involving PHP/Angular (advanced web apps) you can plan on paying a decent amount of money for, but we can talk about it.

I don't have a fancy image to show you, but I could make one and update this thread in the future.

I'm interested in making contacts and expanding my portfolio. I would love to do some websites that are for something professional (i.e not just Minecraft). I do not have the time to take on more than 1 big project at once, but I will take into consideration all that talk to me.

I am willing to do a few vouch sites, depending on what you want.

Thanks for reading.

High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

I have not tested on this specific model, could you make a bug report on my GitHub with a screenshot, your browser info, and a detailed description of the issue?
Yes of course! Can I get a link please? I'm having trouble finding your github!

Hello,

I somewhat follow what you're saying but I would charge $50 for a website like https://host-atom.com/ does that make me a bad developer? No, not at all. The thing is on this website is everyone wants a portal based website so of course they all look the same.

Also i'm yet to see any websites you have worked on? What makes you any better than another developer? Anyone can word a thread like yours but you need to back up your skills with actual work that I can view.

Kind regards,

Hello, Errota. What you say is well noted -- I don't have any public websites to show besides my own.

Also, note that I said if you're paying $20 or less for a site, you're not getting a quality website, you're most likely getting a template that has been filled in.

"The thing is on this website is everyone wants a portal based website so of course they all look the same."
This statement is assuming that every portal looks the same... ? Why do portal based websites have to look the same? (the answer is a lack of creativity or the usage of other people's work)

What makes me better than any other developer?
Nothing at all -- I am not claiming to be better. I am claiming that my work is original and completely custom.

Anyone can word a thread like yours but you need to back up your skills with actual work that I can view.
I do offer voucher websites, in case anyone like yourself really wants to test my abilities.

The fact of the matter is that I do know what I am talking about when it comes to these things -- I did not just start web development in the past 6 months, or even the past year. If you'd like to say that a lack of "proof" says that I don't, more power to you. I will not argue my skills, because the websites will speak for themselves (if anyone claims vouchers).

Thanks for the comment.[DOUBLEPOST=1457460059][/DOUBLEPOST]
my lord, all these website dev threads in development we might as well remove http://www.mc-market.org/forums/mc-web-development/

Sorry, this thread was my first post. I was unaware that there was a "Web Development" section upon creating this thread. I do have skills that lie outside the realm of web development, so I suppose that could make up it.

I agree with most of the points you make, but I think that there are experienced web developers who are willing to work for 20USD or less. Especially on a forum such as MCM, where most of the clients have a low budget, a lot of developers have taken to cutting prices in order to attract clients. Considering that quite a bit of the work requests are for portals to Enjin/Xenforo sites, 20USD is a somewhat fair price for someone on a budget. Of course, this does allow inexperienced developers to sell templates, but that's just a risk that buyers need to be aware of. At the same time though, that does ruin it for larger more expensive projects such as a custom forum site/theme, as clients expect ridiculously low prices for outstanding work.

Right, right. I see what you're saying. $20 could be a fair price depending on what exactly the site entails, I am sure that below $20 is probably not worth it. (Also, consider, some people sell sites for less than $5! That is crazy!)

You nagged at all other web developers for selling themselves cheap, and here you are literally giving away your services.

The issue is not of developers underselling themselves, it's the fact that developers in this community understand the issue with budgets.
Many people who come into MCM as well as other such communities, don't have extravagant and vast budgets allotted for a website; as such developers within this community have had to lower their prices massively, in order to even get a client among these people.

Just because our prices may be low, does not mean we lack any form of quality over those who charge higher prices. Look around, all developers charge differently, it's just a matter of how different the prices are, and how the pricing effects the quality. As long as people take pride in what they do, and provide the quality they promise, I see absolutely no issue with how they price things.

This is a website that I had created as a voucher (I offered these in my OP, please refer to that). The person ended up wanting a template, I do not create templates.

Low prices do, for the most part, mean a lack of quality. A quality developer will not work for free (unless it is a case like a voucher), they shouldn't work for free.

If you don't have the budget to pay for a quality website, learn to do it on your own.

The 3 most repped web developers on this website sell free templates for $10-20 a pop -- that's sad.

You may remain under whatever assumption you believe, however I've said my part and put forth my opinion. I leave this conversation now.
