Heya.

I think the privating your profile option should be removed, as it could easily prevent scams. Generally, privating your profile means you have something to hide or some other reason such as devouches, etc.. I see no reason why to have this, because if you don't like people from posting on your profile there is a separate option for that.

Regards,
Greg

My profile is private, and I keep it private simply because I like to allow only friends etc to view my profile. Yes, this may be a public forum but I see no need for removing this when we can still add, and view, rep by clicking the % button in the modal. See the below screenshot:

You can say that profile posts etc are used for vouches and devouches - well the rep system is too and that is the exact purpose of the rep system.
What do you have to hide Chearful?

A bunch of personal stuff which I'd rather not have outsiders see. Hence why with a suggestion like this in pending I was forced to beg Doge to purge every single profile post on my profile.

You shouldn't have anything to hide. This is a marketplace forum.

So I assume that by this mentality we're finally going to have detailed explanations as to what happened each time the site goes down, instead of "something happened" spread out over a few sentences?

Mick - seems a little bias you find it fair that you can have an opinion. You should take in all of the user's views, whether you agree with them or not.
Lol what? Are you retarded? He is taking in all user's views, just because a few people disagree with the suggestion doesn't mean he should ignore the majority of users that do.

What do you think he's hiding? ISIS hacked mc-market? There's nothing for him to share with us, the site went down.

did it go down because they discovered a problem? did it get DDosed? etc etc.

Anyway, I hate the argument "you shouldnt have anything to hide", no matter what the context. Yes I do have something to hide. My life, for instance, is none of other people's business. Sure, that shouldn't be on my profile, so it's not relevant here, but something like that is my instinctive reaction to that argument, which governments have been using as an excuse to decrease privacy for decades now.
In this specific case I have no problem with it since my profile is public anyway, but using that argument is the perfect way to get on my bad side.

But see that's exactly the problem. There is nothing really to hide here. You provided an example, it doesn't even apply. If someone changes their name and goes private at that point you're going into a deal blind and have no idea who you're dealing with. Scam report titles don't update, and nobody is going to think to check every report for name changes before they do a deal. There is quite literally no reason to be private besides to piss people off.

Did you see the part where I said it wasnt relevant to this specific post? no I guess you read over it.
I said that it isnt relevant to this post. Just to make sure you dont read over it. The whole reason I even replied to mick is because the specific argument he used ticks me off by definition (in 2016 speak it's called "triggering").
As I said, just to make sure, it's not really quite relevant to this post.

I read it, trust me. There was no need for you to provide it if it's not relevant. If anything it strengthens my argument because your lack of providing a solid reason as to why you should be able to private your profile

We added this several updates ago, I just never updated this for some reason.

I'll move this to accepted, thanks.
