Justis put it well here, I believe it was better before.
ik yall gonna be upset but yall gotta make up your minds, its always either you want change and are fine with that change, or dont want change but are mad the way things are...

edit#1) Thinking about this, it would also remove the need for Feedback Mods, the amount that roy and Tofty go through a day was insane before the new implementations, this could make their focus on different, more important aspects. To quote roy, "I've done over 350 reports today" on Nov 26th.

High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

I think we can come to a pragmatic, community-led resolution on how to fix the current issues with the reputation system. This involves a compromise, and one which the community agrees to. Big changes such as the ones that were proposed should be put to an advisory poll before implementation.

However, I don't believe that the reputation system needs removing as a result. I believe that the reputation system has helped hundreds of people look into who they are dealing with, and make a choice as to whether to deal with the user accordingly. As Justis states in his thread you've linked, before the reputation system, users were merely using the reaction system with a "Vouch/Winner" reaction which could easily be abused, and was a rather loose way of measuring someone's trustworthiness.

Now that the reputation system has a clear set of rules, and requires evidence to back up all claims made, it is superior to the old reaction system. We have a dispute process that is easy to use, and report-response times are usually very fast (roy <3).

However, I do agree that the system has it's flaws, including a lack of consistency where legacy reputation is concerned. A more consistent reputation system is one that is better-placed to accurately assist users in assessing someone's trustworthiness. As such, I do believe legacy reputation needs to be implemented into the normal system - one way or another.

The reputation system needs community-based improvement, not removal.

I could not have said it better myself. Though I do have a potential proposition.

As you (Maddy) are speaking about simply removing feedback all together, what about simply removing the value point assigned to feedback? Feedback should be viewed as a "review", whether someone is speaking in regards to your personal character or the quality of your services shouldn't both count towards a similar value. I feel as though adjusting the system to be "read my reviews"-esq rather than "I have 200 +rep and 0 -rep!" would be much more beneficial than removing the system entirely. It removes feedback/rep farming as there are no values assigned to each feedback left yet the feedback itself is still kept beneficial as the information provided should be considered, rather than a green, blue, or red box.

How about no value attached, but rather a percent of pos:neg. And when someone wants to check someone’s rep, instead of saying all in one jumble, it just shows three keywords that the person giving the rep adds to the rep.

sorry I’m always bad at wording stuff lol

Back about a year ago we introduced some pretty radical changes to the way that we handle reputation. We made all reputation left by banned members be marked as uncounted in your reputation totals and disabled the reporting functionality to reduce abuse and targeted. The changes that we made were certainly controversial at the time, but looking back I'm a firm believer that the changes we made back then were the best that we could have made.

Our reputation system is very far from being perfect in its current state, and we fully recognise that. Since it's introduction we've changed many policies and spent countless hours developing new custom systems, such as disputing feedback.

At the moment we aren't planning to do any more development for our site until we can migrate to XF2. We're also not going to be making any changes to our policies surrounding reputation. Our system is stable at the moment, and making a change now when we're going to be redeveloping everything shortly isn't beneficial. Perhaps once we move to XF2 and have fixed all the bugs that come with that and have more time for some new development and to consider the impact that instituting new policies will result in.

Until then, I'll move this to denied. Once we migrate to XF2 if you feel that this is still relevant please create a new suggestion thread and we can look into it once again. Thank you to everyone for your support and criticism of our systems, it is definitely the best way for us to improve.

Thank you,
