Hello MC-Market

I recently had an idea to stop repetitive scamming, this idea came to me when a friend of mine was the victim of repeat scamming.

I think that scam reports should have a "ticket" style report system, where you enter the MC-Market username of the person, and fill in all the boxes - then a staff member / scam resolver is informed of the thread.

Now, I think that when this report is made, the person who is being reported should get a tag next to their name (approved by the scam moderator, e.g. by clicking a button or something), something like "Report open", but sum that up in one word - obviously.

The user should only get the scam report if the proof shows that the person could have scammed - and therefore is "dangerous".

Bold has been online and not replied, this would also make people reply to their scam reports to get the badge off of their profile.

M6 didn't take kindly to my idea.

I hope you do <3.

So basically, I could file a scam report on someone and until the report is resolved there'd what is basically a giant devouch on their user icon. Yeah, not going to work. Its one of those ideas that are great in theory but will never work in practice.

Basically, this would allow someone to mess up someone else's reputation by using alts to consistently post scam reports/tickets.
And yes, I do expect that to happen. We've got some very immature members on this website, though I don't see a lot of them active anymore (fortunately).
And while you say they will be dealt with "quickly", I'm gonna assume its going to take a minimum of 3 hours for them to be resolved in the best of situations.

I think the community warnings will do for now, people posting "careful when dealing with this user" etc. Though I'd prefer if all people that posted those actually included the evidence they threw into the scam report.

Also, unless we're talking purely about the account business right now (where I know of no way to prevent being scammed other than getting lucky with a reliable owner), getting scammed means you failed your common sense check. I thought most people on here would know how to avoid basic scams by now.[DOUBLEPOST=1454954225,1454954154][/DOUBLEPOST]
That'd partially solve the problem I illustrated in the post I was typing while you commented that :p.
Anyway, another solution would be to simply allow people to see pending scam reports. Unless there's some disadvantage to it that I'm missing completely.

Sometimes users submit scam reports and fail to remove sensitive information that should not be open to the community

There are several things wrong with this...

As I said, a scam report member would have to have an opinion on whether the scam report is valid and THEN decide whether the user gets to "wear the badge". For alting you will get a permanent ban, and for faking scam reports a 30 day - perm ban - not exactly worth it. This would not mess up someone's reputation, as the majority of scam reports are against people who are not well known in the community.

When I say "quickly", what I mean is, the scam report staff can scan the ticket, have a guess if it seems legitimate (e.g. perhaps has some proof and looks fishy), and THEN give the user the badge.

Warnings will not do for now, as repeat scamming is a large thing, I'm sorry but you're just entirely wrong.

Another idea is to add a place where you can check on a users profile for open scam reports.

You've got a very strong opinion - but its not thought through very clearly. I only gave rough guidelines for a superb idea.

wow shot down fast there.
Well, at least you've got both the brains and the guts to defend your points. plenty of people on here lack that (including me if I'm too lazy/hasty to consider things quickly). a bunch of my points got completely wiped out.

still, repeat scamming is a large thing? I've seen maybe 5 people with more than 1 scam report on them in my time here. I must've missed a crapload of them to miss a "large thing". possible, but it surprises me.

Also, what sections do these scams take place in? My point on people not using common sense still stands. As long as I follow my own rules on how to avoid being scammed, I don't get scammed. I've followed this for nearly 5 months now. Not one scam.
So I can only imagine this must be in one of the sections where its easier to get scammed (accounts?). Or a lot of people new to the minecraft market in general.

ah, I see. That's the point I was missing then.[DOUBLEPOST=1454956928,1454956889][/DOUBLEPOST]
But again, people are free to post threads warning others before dealing with specific members, which is basically the same as the report icon, under, next to the potential scammers name. But most people wont find the thread which warns users about dealing with a user but if the icon is there the users will probably re-think about dealing with them. So the best option here is to have the icon/warning message but make it not abusable by allowing only members with 25+ or 2 months of registration to file these reports. And if the reported person isn't actually a scammer, the warning would be removed from his name if he files a report, since this scam-resolver team is working fast, it shouldn't be a big issue.
true enough. You did a much better job of convincing me than the OP did.

It's honestly not that hard to look up a user's name in the scam reports section before dealing with him.

I think their point is that in the period between a scam report being submitted and becoming public, its possible for a scammer to keep operating.

I'm not sure what you consider slow? All scam reports are usually approved and responded to within 24 hours after opening.
Honestly, I hate the whole scam reports system but I think people take it for granted. No decent site does it, one because it sucks and two because it's a lot of effort. For 24 hour response time on people's crappy lives because they lack brain cells is extraordinary and absolutely amazing.

I think you've provided it to the point where people take it for granted. Complaining with 24 hour response times... What a joke

Sure it is, it is even when it's solved too. Learn to search. It's not the forum's job to babysit your ass and do everything for you. Do you want me to feed you your cookies too, because you can't be bothered to go to the kitchen, so apparently there's no food in the house (because you can't be bothered to go to the kitchen). Same logic.

No it's not - stop sticking up for the other side.

Hello MC-Market

I recently had an idea to stop repetitive scamming, this idea came to me when a friend of mine was the victim of repeat scamming (due to M6 being very slow with responses, f*ck you M6).

Now, I think that when this report is made, the person who is being reported should get a tag next to their name, something like "this person has been reported for scamming", but sum that up in one word - obviously.

I understand this can be abused, but fake reports (which are few and far between) will be dealt with swiftly, as we have many active scam report staff to deal with them (right?).

M6 didn't take kindly to my idea.

I hope you do <3.

Doesn't matter if it's 14 days or 2 months. It's a courtesy service, you don't pay for it and you shouldn't have this stupid thing anyway.

No it's not - stop sticking up for the other side.
"Side" what is this? This isn't about sides, it's an opinion that I've expressed since day one. I hate the system, and I've always hated helping people be lazy and stupid. That's what this system do, and this suggestion further promotes it.

If you only searched this thread properly instead of jumping down the throat of anyone that says anything? I was just illustrating the bloody point made by the OP in a quick sentence. yet you choose to jump down my throat of all people? did you even bother reading the rest of this post?

I feel like you're just practicing to wipe out the local school bully by commenting in these threads with insults. definitely feels like it.
