A while back, I was on MCM under an unrelated alias, chatting and posting, but mostly lurking (internet tip: lurk moar). But there were a lot of questions about account stuff, which I could answer as a Mojang employee, and I figured I'd just make everything official by using my recognized username and avatar. After all, there was nothing to hide, so why not interact with everyone out in the open?
Doing so led to a lot of questions getting answered, some getting helped with personal issues, and a high amount of hate towards me. At times, even showing as online (I changed my status to invisible long ago now) was cause for a profanity-laden rant, personal attacks, or outright threats. Which makes sense: me being here was a threat to peoples' "business", and despite the finger-pointing and questions as to "why focus on X and not Y", most of you actually know that selling accounts violates the terms of service, and selling someone else's account is just wrong. Your protestations are useless; we all know that the people who have access to dozens of accounts are not the original buyer.
When I lurked on the Nodus forums back in the day (a site with similar business happening), they knew I was around, but without being transparent and using my typical username, it turned me into the boogeyman. Suddenly, every time anything went wrong, I had caused it, even if I was, say, asleep at the time. There would be posts, tweets, calls for a witch hunt to find my account, etc. I attempted to avoid that here, and usually answered your questions.
As an aside, a lot of people lately have been trying to describe in great detail what all my job entails, and that the illicit activities here should be ignored, due to the nature of my job. It's not for you to determine what my job is, and, at the very least, I can forward issues that I see to people who are more specialized to this sort of thing.
So, in order to reduce some stress, I'm discontinuing this account. Going forward, if I chat/post/read here, it'll be either under my very old account, or a brand new one, I haven't decided yet. It'll be through a proxy; my IP won't show as Sweden. You can still interact with me on Twitter, but I've already muted a bunch of you previously (the tweets were getting obnoxious, so a lot of you have been shouting into the ether without knowing it).
Anyway, quit being dicks to each other. See you around!
