Greetings McMarket,

So like the title says should I start a website host. It would be cheap and even include free plans. I am curious as if I should start one though. I could use CPanel or create my own custom panel.

It may even expand to Mc Hosting once my custom panel "PaperPanel" is completed. It won't be based from any other panel but entirely my own.

Hey, definitely don't peruse this. As others have said, it's a very saturated market and don't think you will be the exception, because you won't be. To be successful with anything -- you need to work for it, and you need to take some form of risk. It is arguably less risky however, to spend money and time on something that has potential than to waste money on a market with little to no value.

Here is an example for you. I enjoy KitPvP on minecraft, however rather than entering that saturated market, I instead started creating my own game, using kitpvp as the focus for my project. This will have far more potential success than any kitpvp server might have.

Currently, the hosting market is very saturated. If you would really like to get into hosting, then I recommend to go for Colocation and dedicated server hosting at an affordable price. That's where I see the need currently.

Like if you're considering starting any business, you need to establish the key things like market analysis, your sales strategy, and then what you think you would be looking at with your financial projections - how much money do you think you can make from this?

It's clear you haven't properly considered these things, so the short answer is "no" - you, shouldn't. Any good business plan establishes key reasons your business will stand out from the competition. Without that you, too, will be competing purely on how little profit you can make. No one thinks you're cool for starting a "commoditized" business which makes no profit - it's called fools work.

To start a hosting company that has any chance - in the highly competitive and saturated market - you need clear plans for how your product and marketing will stand out. Without those, you're wasting your time.

Go for it, if you wanna do it do it. I was in the same boat awhile ago but I decided just to go for it. I found out it’s not so much what you offer or how although building a great community is what matters people wanna know they can rely on a host. That’s what keeps it running, that’s why all these summer host close cause they don’t create a community they are to worried about making $$$ so they don’t follow the correct steps.
