When considering where the best locations for MC-Market to advertise ourselves would be, server list websites were brought up as being the most targeted, since they function as as a hub for server owners listing and managing their server entries. As you know, MC-Market is also a place for server owners since a huge portion of our resources and forums are dedicated to content that is meant to be used on servers.

Before paying for services, the first question you ask yourself is whether or not you might be capable of providing yourself with that service. If we’re looking to pay for server lists because they are a hub for our target audience, then what we should ask is whether or not we can be that hub as well. If not to replace, then to supplement the traffic we stand to gain from taking advantage of server lists as a marketing platform.

Incorporating a server list into our site would:
- Increase our SEO potential
- Provide our community with on-site tools that a large portion already utilize
- Create additional revenue streams for further expanding, developing, advertising
- Turn every MC server promoting their server-list entry into free marketing for MC-Market. Players voting for their server on our platform will become exposed to the other products and services we offer and have the opportunity to become interested enough to stick around.

Unlike everyone else trying to start a server list, we already have a massive community to start off with. Moreover, most servers use a large handful of different lists just to ensure they’re putting their name out in as many places as possible.

Even if we’re a little late to the game to become one of the biggest lists any time soon, I see this as a very low-risk, high-reward expansion opportunity for our platform, and would love to hear what everyone else thinks.

Great idea, now we won't have people spamming our recent threads with their servers

As long as they're not advertised above the chatbox, yes

The only thing is, MC-market is based of server owners, not players so people wouldn't really use the server list that much. You might argue, the server owners would bring the players to the server list, but why risk the players leaving for other servers? And even if that argument was invalid, these players aren't really going to fit into any of the forum categories minus a few sections. Though in theory it sounds good, it isn't really the demographic that MCM has tried to establish.

On paper looks like a good idea! You could technically make it like a leaderboard for server owners to compete at.

To be honest I don't see how Mc-market would actually provide valuable and worthwhile traffic to Minecraft servers since the majority of users here are server owners/service providers, not players.

The last point (about Players voting for their server would notice Mc-Market forum/resources) sounds good but the question is how many server owners would actually want to send their players here instead of to other more established voting sites?

I'd say no, we'd be attracting the wrong crowd. As people mentioned above in this thread, MC-Market is more or less a place for Server Owners, Service Teams, etc etc to advertise services and recruit staff. In my opinion adding a server list would be random and feel out of place. It'd also exponentially increase the amount of crackheads we experience here on MC-Market, and scams would probably take place more often due to naive people dealing with shady people. You'd have to have a big moderation team before even doing this, it take a huge toll on the staff team if they were to manually add every server, and make sure its not some scam.

If you were to do this, you'd have to be extremely careful, and gradual with your approach. I can see it working, but if we're looking 2021 a MC-Market server list - it doesn't seem like a good idea to me. Not sure if this is just my opinion tho,

I would love to see this feature. Yes, mcm is full of server owners and developers but it will start to bring more players that could end up making their own server and look towards mcm for developers and such. I think this would help mcm quite a bit (SEO would be better aswell)

Personally, I love this idea. Would allow smaller server owners, to get more exposure for their communities.

It's been an idea we've thought about a lot but ultimately a server list isn't a priority of ours right now. Perhaps in a year or two we may reconsider and decide this is the next way we want to expand but for now our focus is purely on our marketplace forum and resources.

I'll move this to denied, thanks for the feedback folks.
