recently many sites/gifs known as "screamers" have been posted in the shoutbox w/o warning. i jumped out of my chair and threw my laptop across the bed and went running n' screaming and jumped into my dog's bed.

im still recovering. i can't even go into my room anymore without my dog xD

please make a rule stating that you may not post screamers w/o clear warning or just not at all.

I've never been scared because of something on my computer.. I don't understand why people overreact so much. Like bruh its on a screen it can't hurt you.

The worst I got is just that chill at the back of the neck that lasts for 5 seconds lol. I never flipped out over something like that.

Jeff The Killer is a popular fictional story usually accompanied by an image of a pale, nose-less man grinning. The image is commonly captioned with “GO TO SLEEP” written in red. In addition to the creepypasta, it is also popular as a jumpscare image.

Orgin
On Newgrounds[1] , a user named “killerjeff” uploaded the first image of Jeff The Killer. The image is presumed to be a photoshop of Katy Robinson, who killed herself after being bullied into suicide by 4chan in fall 2008.




Spread
Because of the image and story’s scary nature, the character is very popular in the creepypasta community, and has lots of fan art in sites like DeviantArt. It is also spread on 4chan.

Creepypasta
On October 3rd, 2008, a user named Sesseur uploaded a video of the first known instance of the Jeff the Killer creepypasta[2]. The creepypasta later spread, and became very popular in the creepypasta community. The creepypasta has also received a large amount of criticism, being banned entirely from the creepypasta wiki[3].




There is another popular version of the story commonly found on 4chan’s /x/ board. This version is much less popular and much shorter.

Spinoffs
The character has inspired a large amount of spin-offs, the most famous being “Jane the Killer.”[4] While the Jeff the KIller creepypasta has mainly received praise, Jane has received a lot of hatred within the Creepypasta community, especially on the Wiki. She is commonly viewed as a Mary Sue.
