Most builds I see are boxes with cut and paste walls, why is this? Is this generation of gamers so dumb that they require a design that is like a cattle-prod "this way out!", "shop here". Whatever happened to innovation, immersion, and exploration? When I play on most of the major Minecraft servers, they seem like an immediate aesthetic turn off....due to over stimulation and lack of innovation. I even feel insulted as a gamer when I look up and see a 20 foot high dollar sign pointing me to the server store.

Back in my day *snickers*. I know I sound like an old person now, I am perhaps an old gamer and lover of Skyrim, and games like that... :) You spawned in a city and visited shops, banks, etc. to get your gear before venturing out into the wilderness. There were quests and points of interest in the immediate area in which one "spawned". No big holograms, no signs, no pig pens....If I wanted to hunt pork chops, I would have to go out into a PK infested wilderness and risk all my gear! Such adventure and risk all for the most basic supplies. No hand outs.

Must we really spawn in a box, no one would take the time to explore the area and get what they need before leaving? Often the player's first impression of a server comes from the spawn. Yet I have been warned not to spawn players in a city because it is too confusing.

However, when players appear in a traditional spawn they complain it is "boring", and "your builds are crap" without bothering to explore.

Clearly, I am thinking there must be a better way to approach player spawns.

High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

A well organised town/city build, that way people don't get lost and people feel like they are exploring. As long as there is clear sign-posting the less intelligent of the players will be able to find their way.

Boxes arent too unique but it is easy for small children to get straight into the gamemode without a 'read the instruction manual' approach that they don't like. Most little kids have an attention span the size of this full-stop .

But if this post is a way to gauge if people would purchase a complex, intricate spawn. The answer is yes.

Its not for the gamers, its for the kids that play on most minecraft networks. You'll be surprised at how bad they are at finding their way.
example: On Hypixel creative, where I spend a lot of time, there is a "tutorial" that you spawn in and which you need to traverse before you can join the actual server. However, despite the line of red carpet that leads right through it and the hologram text floating in the air telling you what to do, we still need to manually tell about half of the people joining to follow the red carpet and read all the signs of the tutorial.

Another reason a lot of spawns are square boxes with copypasted sides is because those are cheaper and easier to make.

I make relatively few of those copypasted builds myself, but it is often tempting to do so especially if the budget of the buyer is kindof low.

It's the new generation of kids playing ganes who are just lazy.

I think the key is to make a spawn clearly defined while keeping aesthetic shapes.

hah! Yes these dang kid gamers....oh well perhaps I will target the older Minecraft demographic...who would play on a "grandma gamer in combat boots" kind of server :) people who like a challenge and can figure out their butt from a hole in the ground without alot of spoon feeding.

Most builds I see
Don't want to start an argument here, but if these are the builds you see you must stick to a certain server type like factions.

Most factions server have this layout so players can easily exit spawn and/ or pvp. They don't want to "explore" for 5 minutes before they're able to leave.

If you like spawns that aren't coppied and pasted and that you explore to find things, play some hcf! None of them are like that.

Square coppied and pasted spawns are fine so long as the stuff in each quadrant is unique and it all looks visually pleasing.

You're point is so valid. Coming from a build team i can see from builders who apply and their portfolio if which builds are just walls pasted 4 times and something unique. Often times when you hire a new team full of 12 year builders/or just get someone younger they aren't that much into the build rather are in it to be called a builder or to make the money. Assumption here is you bought a spawn and it was what you are describing? Kinda?

To find a truly good builder find one who does it by hand. Yes it takes a LONG while though then you know who is actually a builder.

As a side note, most of people from my generation of when we played minecraft as I'm 18 now slightly out of the age it's intended for, people are quitting, and just getting bored of it. I've had so many builders/friends/good players just quit since they are out of it.

The next generation of minecraft players are still in the I"m 12 mindset and haven't learned to be good yet. I think with time they can become overall better. BTW To find a GOOD builder, don't look on MC-Market, or any other sales forum just find a website of a dedicated/highly professional team.

Coming back to the point you raised, a decent way to approach player spawns, is to captivate them from the spawn point, if that's good then then they don't bother to judge the rest as they probably come on and go straight off to their game. Maybe do events at spawns, hide the block or something. Force them to explore(maybe learn a thing or two?).

Is there something wrong with this?

Just because you're in it soley for the money doesn't mean you're uncreative or a low quality builder.
There's nothing wrong with it though people who have that as a sole focus often don't deliver product worth the money they ask for, I'm speaking from experience. And when it comes to Mc market the amount of people that post builds and overcharge for honestly shit is too damn high.
