Most builds I see are boxes with cut and paste walls, why is this? Is this generation of gamers so dumb that they require a design that is like a cattle-prod "this way out!", "shop here". Whatever happened to innovation, immersion, and exploration? When I play on most of the major Minecraft servers, they seem like an immediate aesthetic turn off....due to over stimulation and lack of innovation. I even feel insulted as a gamer when I look up and see a 20 foot high dollar sign pointing me to the server store.
Back in my day *snickers*. I know I sound like an old person now, I am perhaps an old gamer and lover of Skyrim, and games like that...
You spawned in a city and visited shops, banks, etc. to get your gear before venturing out into the wilderness. There were quests and points of interest in the immediate area in which one "spawned". No big holograms, no signs, no pig pens....If I wanted to hunt pork chops, I would have to go out into a PK infested wilderness and risk all my gear! Such adventure and risk all for the most basic supplies. No hand outs.
Must we really spawn in a box, no one would take the time to explore the area and get what they need before leaving? Often the player's first impression of a server comes from the spawn. Yet I have been warned not to spawn players in a city because it is too confusing.
However, when players appear in a traditional spawn they complain it is "boring", and "your builds are crap" without bothering to explore.
Clearly, I am thinking there must be a better way to approach player spawns.
