I hereby suggest a badge denoting "Years of service" for staff.
If a staff member has been a part of the team for a year, they shall get one.
If they've been a part of the team for two years, the old badge is removed, and they get a two year badge
Since time passes slowly, and we've hardly been around that long.. This shouldn't be too difficult to keep up with.
Not to mention a majority of staff seem to come and go...
But I do feel like there should be some indication of a difference between someone who's contributed literally years of their life to the forums and one of the dozens of chat mods that got rolled in, and left shortly after, for example.

Very few staff have reached that point so far.
Which is not a bad thing. It makes it all the more special.

Plan for the future, not for the moment.
Because by the time your plans come to life, the moment will have passed, and you'll be stuck in a future you were not prepared for.

Faster than any of us will be able to realize it, MCM will have been around for as long as most people care to remember...
And the amount of staff we'll have gone through....

As I said, I do feel that staff who have dedicated literally years of their life to bettering the forums should be recognized, during and forever after.

To make this post simpler for those that hate essays, the badge would be a cool idea and this would be an idea to describe the years:

The Cube image(logo of MCM) with a symbol in the middle for every year of service. Thoughts?
It could be say bronze for 1st year, silver for 2nd, gold for 3rd etc

The whole badge idea is great and all but I don't believe that it should be staff exclusive. Every member in this community no matter if they are staff, have account upgrades, or don't have any thing besides a confirmed email address should be able to have this badge. All badges should be a possible to achieve for any member. Some may require money yes, but I don't believe that certain badges should be impossible to get for everyone else. Justis if you were not a shout box mod, would you be expressing the same opinion? thebaum64 and Tilt have a good understanding of the idea and have a good counter-idea in my opinion.
Take a look at the Badges, Bullet.

ONLY available to those members who run servers.
And a large server, at that.

Contest winner.
So far, we've had one contest...
Only available to builders.

Generous.
Only available to those with money to pay for it.

First fifty.
Only available to those who got lucky enough to find the site early.

Retired staff.
Only available to staff members.

And the rest are donation badges, only available to people with lots of money to dish out to MCM.

If you look at it your way, you could say that none of these badges are for everyone.
Look at it another, and you could say that they're available to all members.
You have the opportunity to open up a server.
You have the opportunity to change your skill set.
You have the opportunity to earn more money and purchase a whole bunch of badges.
And you retain the opportunity to prove your ability to be staff, and join the team.

Every member has the chance to become an active, contributive, mature, and whatever else criteria is used to consider someone for staff.

The only badge impossible to get is the first 50 badge.

The reason this badge idea occurred to me was because the addition of shoutbox mods made the "retired staff" badge meaningless. We were rolled in like cookies.
I, one of them.

But this badge is not about me.
I've been a part of the staff team hardly a month, and there's always the possibility that I won't be next month; or the 10 months after that.
This badge is still important to me.
I want those who deserve recognition for all that they've sacrificed for this site, no matter who they are, to be recognized.
I can think of a few current staff members who just constantly amaze me... And motivate me to do better.
If they keep it up for a full year, I'll be so disappointed if all they have to show for it at the end is a "retired" badge no more distinctive than someone who was a member of the staff team for mere days.
So to answer your question...
Would I still support this badge, if I were not a chat mod.
Yes. Absolutely.

It could be say bronze for 1st year, silver for 2nd, gold for 3rd etc
That only works for three years. :/
Are we limiting it to that? Gold at three years?
Or will we start coming up with our own special colors, "rainbow" and "sparkle" and stuff after that?
I have high expectations. :p
Forgive me for assuming there will be staff members who stick with us for a long time.

Alright, good one example.
But that's pretty cliche, bronze, silver, gold... Everyone knows that after gold comes platinum.
But what comes after platinum?

I was thinking something more like a symbol, representing the number of years...
Or maybe an object for every year.
Like a trophy, since you wanted that, or a medal, or even a block...
One for one year, two for two, three for three, four for four, five.. Six.. Etc..
Makes it simple. Easy to understand.

I don't understand though why you are making a thread to share your idea to the "community" if the idea isn't for us. Why didn't you just PM a Admin?

I suggested this before...
But the thing is, there's no way to monitor every single member to see who has been an active member of the forums, and who just happened to create an account.
And at that point, you might as just well look at the person's account creation date.
I've seen forums that automate this. It's possible.

I did, and I was told to make a suggestion thread.
I suppose because it is for everyone.. Everyone has to look at it.
Everyone has the potential to become a staff member for a year or more.

To you, I'd like to quote another member I've had many disagreements with, but have a high respect for.
Everything is possible, but this isn't worth the time or the effort.
As I said earlier...
That's a total waste of MCM's time and resources.
There are a million other better things to be spending our money on, than a handing out badges like cookies system, because some members want a badge indicating something that can already be seen on every user's profile.

Staff badges? Not exactly the best idea, but you stumbled on a good idea - badges!

Badges would be a great idea. How you'd use them in a marketplace forum is simple. Trader feedback, marketplace trades etc. (read my "marketplace suggestion" suggestion thread) could be used to award badges. For example, verified phone number, a badge. Trader feedback being generally positive, a badge. A badge for reaching X amount of completed, successful marketplace trades.

Obviously, you can't monitor this with the crappy forum system this site has right now, therefore it only really works with my marketplace improvements suggestion.

Awarding badges for different types of verifications, like phone verification, would greatly decrease scams. Obviously, for the illiterate people on this site that only use POST RATINGS as an indicator of trust (hell, the user Ew was classed as "trusted" lol), this would really help reduce scams. You can't change that Minecraft is full of ignorant children and kids that still find penises funny, but you can definitely reduce scams by awarding badges for possible signs of legitimacy, a bit like what localbitcoins does. As long as it's visible on user message bits, (i.e. the thing to my right, my profile, etc.) then people will see them. Effectively, highly decreasing scams.

Of course, I don't expect this to actually be implemented, but hey, I might as well write it anyway.

So yeah, staff badges? No thanks, we (or, I, rather) don't really care (this is a general discussion forum suggestion, plus staff on this site are, in majority, fucking incompetent). Marketplace related badges? Sounds like a good idea, well done buddy. And definitely not a waste of time and resources given how big of a problem this site has with kids and scamming.[DOUBLEPOST=1456162571][/DOUBLEPOST]
I understand that, though, the date next to a post does not look very nice compared to a badge and over all due to how people like badges and want them, it will make people want to achieve them, meaning more people say and enjoy the site.
You don't 'enjoy' a marketplace, you make money. This isn't fun and games, it should be pure business and, obviously, some community aspect to it as well (otherwise it's boring as hell). This site is hack forums on steroids renamed to minecraft market. I feel like you think you signed up to hack forums or generaldiscussion.org. A lot of your posts make me think you're in direct contradiction to the footer:
908a41f419.png

You are right that people will want to achieve them (kids love shiny things, so do real businessmen too actually, anything to stand out), therefore I present the rest of my post (read above).[DOUBLEPOST=1456162771][/DOUBLEPOST]Also, when I say badges, I don't mean these little 4x4 icons. I mean big, bold medals that people actually see. Real badges. Though, I do like how medals (basically, they're donator medals) are small, probably the most forum constructive decision made yet.

I couldn't tell from your post whether or not you realized... That badges are already a thing.
This suggestion thread is about the addition of a badge to that list.
If you have other badge ideas you'd like to bring up, feel free to make another suggestion thread.
I know Baum just made one suggesting a badge for people who made popular texture packs.

But, as you said, filling our list of badges with things that everybody can do as easily as verifying your phone...
With the software we are currently running this would not be possible.
We would have to do it by hand for every member, and for something that large of scale, it's nonsense to even consider.

So you'd first have to suggest we spend our time and resources on an addon for automating badges.
Before all these dreams of a badge for every other user task, can be actualized.

I'd call them medals (the add-on is also called medals, bd medals I think?). I know they exist (referenced them in my edit), but when I referred to badges for verifications, I mean things that actually matter and therefore stand out (like localbitcoins) and not little 4x4 icons that are totally irrelevant.

Quite easy to code up in XenForo. I could probably do it in 30 minutes tops.

I'd be interested to hear more about this new system/extension of yours.
Especially if you're willing to write it for us yourself. xP
Make another thread explaining it though?
This thread is still about a years of service "trophy" (as you prefer to call them).
And neither of our topics will be discussed properly if we talk about them both here.

Feel free to do so if you want. I don't put in effort into threads, because I don't realistically see it happening though (nothing but basic stuff appears to happen here), so feel free to try your luck.
