Hey,

Earlier today I was wondering how long it was since my last advertisement because I had no clue and the chat logs only went back a couple of minutes, so I asked a Chat Mod if they could check (since I do not have ultimate I have restricted access to chat logs).

Here is how that conversation went:

I then asked them to double-check, they said they would, they then responded with:

I understand why this is a "policy" but it should be more of a suggestion than a rule. If they can check the last advert time is more than 20 minutes, then they can say to do it.

It should be changed and staff should reserve the right to just reply with "no" or "no, i'm busy" or any other reason.

I see this as a means to put responsibility for following our rules onto the staff team rather than oneself. Why keep track of how long it was since your last ad, if you can just tag the active staff member three times within 20 minutes asking if it’s time yet?

Prior to it not being policy to decline these requests, users would do exactly that. It would interfere with ongoing conversation the staff member is trying to have with other members in chatbox, accrue a lot of wasted staff time, support the idea that chat was for ads more than it was talking, and most importantly, put the responsibility for calculating the advertisement time onto the staff member rather than the user in question. What if the staff member made a mistake and gave the wrong answer? Who’s responsibility would it then be if the user violated the 20 minute rule? The staff member that gave the incorrect answer or the user? That’s what I mean by offloading responsibility.

It is not the staff member who is deciding to advertise at the tail and head of every twenty minutes, and it is not their responsibility to keep track of each and every user’s advertisement time. Their responsibility is to chat with everyone, handle reports made and any violations that they directly witness. If a user would like to advertise at the soonest available second, they should take on the responsibility themselves by setting a timer, or making a note of the time that they advertised so that they can compare it to the current time whenever they’re thinking about advertising again.

The reason we don’t have a timer built in is because we want chat to remain primarily a chat. We don’t want to encourage that users advertise their thread at the soonest available second. The best solution would be if everyone waited long enough to where it was obviously longer than 20 minutes before posting their advertisement again. Forget to check the time of your last ad? Wait another 20 minutes and violating the rule will be impossible.
Idea: MAYBE. JUST MAYBE. We could allow Supreme and up to view archives up to 1 or 2 hours. It'll lose you money so you'll probably decline it but I think that this would be a good solution to this issue.

I mean, in my opinion - a solution to this could be like a new type of message.

So in the shoutbox you put [AD] before your message then a time will appear below the shoutbox which allows you to keep track of your next advert. sure it may be a pain in the ass to develop but it could solve the problem of these salty people.

I have a few questions I'd like for you to answer:
  • How is it Mick's responsibility ensure people are waiting the 20 minutes?
  • How come only Supreme members get this feature when Premium members advertise as well?
  • Why did you choose 1-2 hours when the rule says you have to wait 20 minutes?
  • How is it a good solution for Mick to allow Supreme members to have access to chat logs for 1-2 hours when a very good solution would be for everyone to simply 1) Set a timer right after they advertise or 2) Set a timer when they realize they forgot to set a timer?
Another solution: Just have an alarm for every 20 minutes. Sure, it may not be ideal but it is your responsibility not Mick's. Just because it is a rule doesn't mean Mick or any of the staff member are responsible for telling people when their last ad was.

I get MC-Market is referred to as "having a bunch of kids" but all of y'all are old enough to have some responsibility for something as simple as setting a damn timer or an alarm.

However, if Mick absolutely feels it is his responsibility to cater to the community, the ONLY plausible solution in my opinion would be to allow both Premium and Supreme members to view chat logs for up to 20 minutes and only their messages, no one else's.
1. Never said it was, I just proposed a solution to a problem.
2. More money for MCM so people buy supreme.
3. Why not?
4. Because people don't want another chrome tab out of the 50 they already have, and because it's so easy to implement. All you have to do to implement this is to change a value under the supreme role from 0/no access to whatever time they want.

Also, who said it was Mick's responsibility? It isn't the government's responsibility to give us traffic lights but they do anyways.
Also, Uhm, if you hadn't realized. It is literally Mick's job to make the site better and to improve it for its audience aka THE COMMUNITY.

Indeed. We won't be changing this policy.

Denied, thanks for the suggestion
