Going to make this a full video, tell me what you think.
The Science of Open-Sourcing
As many may know, there are a ton of developers on the market. Some are good but others are just mehhh. Only around 10% of those are actually good. Why’s that? Here’s a story.
When first beginning my journey through development, I got burnt out a lot as I only was looking to accomplish request. The only benefit of my work was for other people. I was not happy with my position. Then one day came and I was like: “I want to make an autoclicker”. For long I had predicted I’d do windows apps, but I had not envisioned I would try it like this.
And with that story I present the art of open-sourcing. In the past 2 weeks, I have learnt more about programming than for the last two years. Starting with only bases I learnt the starting point of C++ which is for me an extraordinary accomplishment. C++ has the reputation of being one very hard language to learn and code in, especially when it comes to interfaces and memory reading. I usually give up on these sort of things within the first day.
I had for a long time been bored when coding, yet this time I would just continue my project. I noticed a different mindset. What if I was happier because I was doing it for myself, without the need to constantly re-adjust things or market it, update it. All these things are just things you don’t need to do when Open-Sourcing. I am not expert but with no doubt I share this story to bring passion to the developers. Are you constantly bored? Create an objective for yourself, publish it and get some feedback. I now see it with my own eyes, most create developers on the market have dozens of open sourced projects they had originally made for themselves.
I encourage developers to consider this approach: don’t try learn by working for others, work for yourself and you’ll learn on the way.
