I liked Thomas cook, sad to see them gone.My dad had a birthday holiday booked with Thomas Cook to Las Vegas, which we were all looking forward to. Cancelled, but at least he's getting his money back.
It's just one of those things, I guess. I know, 9,000 job losses, etc, but that was the fault of the company themselves for saddling themselves with so much debt. They could have easily scaled down.
It isn't, and never has been, the job of the government to bail private companies out. Instead, we should be supporting the 9,000 who have lost their jobs, and ensuring the find work soon or know how to apply for the appropriate financial support where necessary. The government aren't to blame for this, rather the incompetent management of Thomas Cook.
It was a last ditch attempt to find £200million - a roundtable meeting with their banks, lenders, investors and others, and one that failed. It wasn't to be for Thomas Cook, and I guess the market has decided that.
What saddens me is that we've lost a valued, well trusted, and usually regarded as a responsible company. They have their place in British history.
